Why would Pat Robertson call a member of a Christian church a "non-Christian?"
I think Pat Robertson is a dope. And I have a lot of very good Mormon friends. And I can easily see voting for Romney.
But Mormons just are not Christians. It isn't just the Catholics that believe that they aren't Christians - it is pretty much any mainstream Christian denomination.
This is just basic theology. They don't accept the Trinity. At all. It is what it is - a non-Christian religion.
We can argue all day long about whether a non-Christian can be President, but we can't realistically argue about whether Mormons are Christians. Because they aren't.

NO...HE'S NOT GOING TO HELL......JUST YOU!
DOES THAT UPSET YOU....
Get your FACTS straight....Mormons don't believe in the existance of HELL anyway.

Hatch is a Mormon. He represents a state where a large percentage of voters are Mormon. He'd have a heck of a time winning the presidency.
Lieberman is Jewish. Shumer "the putze" is Jewish.
If you look at the polls, you'll see a huge difference in how the voters view Jews vs. Mormons. Mormons are at a far greater disadvantage.

What does Mormon have do with anything? Its the fact that the PRM, which reelects and reelects Kerry and Kennedy, voted him gub'nor that makes me suspicious...

I don't know of any faith that practices anything called "babtism". Not a 'practice' but a Rite. . .(of passage, if you will and so to speak).
Or. . .am I missing something?

"The same as Catholicism was when Kennedy ran. It won't stop him as the public sees what they are getting."
No, almost all protestant denominations recognize Roman Catholics as Christians. (The reverse is not necessarily true --- many RCs espouse that protestants are going to Hell, but that is beside the point.)
This is a much more serious divide --- many/most protestant groups do not recognize Mormons as Christians at all.
The same groups preach that God provides protection to the US because of its Christian devotion.
They would opine (again, for right or wrong) that God would no longer protect the US if we "turned away."
Etc.
Again, NOT ADOPTING the merits of this argument. Just stating that it WILL OCCUR and will be a very, very powerful argument to a critical portion of the electorate.

Oh. .. I got iT! You are right. ..no babtism. . .right! And. . .ooops. .. moving too fast here. . .

What about a woman Mormon candidate? Or is that possible? Most Mormon women are too tired after raising seven children...

What basis do you have for the claim that a Christian is, by definition, trinitarian? I'm not necessarily doubting you, I'm just wondering if you can point me to some relevant authority.
To: zarf
Baptists are soooo huggable and a large percentage of them are in therapy for sexual issues. Do you have a link to documentation of this incredibly slanderous claim?

The Nicene Creed was written during the third century. There was even a debate at the time regarding the Trinity.
My belief is that anyone who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died for our sins is a Christian. I believed that was what made a Christian when I was Catholic. I believe it now.
Even mainstream Christianity can't agree amongst the different sects what makes for a "real Christian" a lot of times.

2. Would you vote for a candidate who has a Muslim-sounding name like Barack Hussein Obama?
What a silly reason not to vote for somebody. It's beneath us.
There are many legitimate reasons not to vote for him - we don't need to make up ludicrous ones.

Yes, you're missing the fact that the word is BAPTISM, not "babtism".
To: rwfromkansas
SIR, YOU OBVIOUSLY CAN'T READ. MORMONS THINK YOU ARE GOING TO HELL. THEY SAY YOU AREN'T A CHRISTIAN.
DOES THAT UPSET YOU?
I decide what is Christian based upon the Scriptures.
Just like YOU DO NOT KNOW IF I AM A SIR, Mormons do not know where I am spending the afterlife. And neither do you.
You are not the decider, not matter what your preacher wants you to believe.

No Mormon considers other Christians real Christians. They would say you are going to hell.
Sorry, I'm not a Mormon, but in this case I have to defend them. I know lots of Mormons. Not one of them will say that I am not a Christian or that I am going to Hell. What they will say is that I will not achieve the same level of exaltation that they do. At the end of the day, Mormonism has a surprisingly universalist streak running through it.
That being said, I don't consider the core of Mormon doctrine to be Christian, although many, if not most of my Mormon friends, I do consider to be Christian in that, to a person, they consider Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross to be the source of their salvation. They go on to add a whole lot of other stuff, by so do most Christians (unfortunately).
No one was ever saved by intellectual assent to proper doctrine. Only by the blood of Christ can one enter heaven.

Here's hoping most evangelicals will be more "put off" with the thought of Hillary as president. Not really. She'll be carrying a Bible, waving incense, wearing a burka complete with an an explosive belt, wearing a wiccan broach, toting around a lesbian mate with a pitch fork, and wearing a Jewish skull cap all at the same time.
Boy golly, she'll have them all fooled.
To: freespirited
If you look at the polls, you'll see a huge difference in how the voters view Jews vs. Mormons. Mormons are at a far greater disadvantage. Evangelicals like Jews, although they really don't trust Judaism. On the other hand, Mormons are out to actively recruit their children away, and Jews don't do that.

It seems to be a big issue with evangelicals. For me (and I'm a Catholic) religion is NOT an issue.
