I actually agree with Rangel on this, but of course he's being disingenous. The only reason he'll sponsor the bill is to put Republicans on the spot for 2008. If Republicans support it move-on.org and the Soros-funded Vietnam era anti-war bunch will go into full scream. If Pubbies oppose it Rangel and his like-minded insincere "patriots" will go into full scream. This is all political theater, not patriotism. Rangel has a good war record but he's a Democrap politician first and foremost.

So you want a return of the draft? How old are you? Would you be subject to the draft? If not, would you enlist to show solidarity with the young men you want to have drafted?

I would support a draft on these conditions....
No college deferments.
Draft women too.
Draft primarily to non-combat roles, leaving volunteer enlistees free to fight.

Rangel bases his comments on draft on his assumption that we only draft poor people (Kerry syndrome since Jon Carey obviously believes the same thing).. seems the dems have no idea just how well educated our current military is.
All that said, I think everyone should be required to perform at least two years public service, military or other wise. It builds character and could possibly be a way to break the socialist welfare cycle.
