A four year old boy?!?! Give me a break!! Although I did read that there has been a 50% increase in toddlers being drugged in our country. Considering that the US consumes 90% of the ritalin in the world, I would take any diagnosis of ADD, ADHD with a grain of salt. I was a teacher and I was appalled at how many times I had to sit in meetings for this. I went head to head with the other Kindergarten teacher about a boy that we both had in class. I refused to agree that he had ADD and needed to be tested. Her basis for this: the boy was extremely intelligent, could recite the "I have a dream" speech verbatim, write very well, etc. Since he was so smart, he was expected by her to write 10 sentences in his journal everyday and wasn't. What flipping 5 year old is going to sit still for a half hour writing sentences in a journal? NONE!! I also believed that if the kiddos in my classroom didn't want to sit when they did their work, they could stand. No big deal.
I would never let a school drug my child and by Supreme Court ruling, they are not allowed to force you to do it.

My son, at about two or so was, well, a pain in the ass. He made me feel so inadequate as a mom, there were days I would come home from grocery shopping and cry.
One day, we were in the doctor's office, and he was being his usual self, trying to open all the drawers, crawl on everything. Doctor walks in, sees this going on, and tells me he is hyperactive and we have drugs for that.
I refused, would not allow it over my dead body. Today, he is an incredible young man. Still strong willed, but we have a fantastic relationship and we made it through without the drugs. Thankfully I homeschooled him so I avoided the whole school scene.

You and the other *teachers* got together and decided who was AHDH? Was a doctor involved at any point?

Could you elaborate on this? I wasn't aware of that.

Excellent point, WV! Which is precisely why I have been so reluctant to even discuss it with anyone.
