Somehow something must be found to appeal to them but unfortunately then the "true conservatives" will go wacko and say the Republican Party has sold out.

Republicans tried to compromise .. problem is .. on many issues they compromised too much .. which ticked off the moderates

As for the "trues" ?? ... I've come to the conclusion that nothing would make them happy .. imo, they would complain and slam their own candidate if they could be elected

I don't know if you are reading my mind but I was driving by the Able Danger Blog yesterday as well, I found this about Col. Shaffer.

http://www.abledangerblog.com/

It's under the sub head of Lt. Shaffer's security clearance restored--just scroll down a ways. Just in case you were like me and wondered what the Govt. finally decided to do with LT. Col. Shaffer I found this on the AD blog.
Nov. 4th Lt. Col.Tony Shaffer resumed command of the Spec. Troops Battalion 9th Theater Support Command.
One can only imagine what this guy has gone through over the past few years, another great American, IMHO.

"People really have a choice. We can either read the news or make the news"....

Think about this guys...Free Republic IS making the news, more and more often...the Dixie Chicks, kristinn and his trip (not enough, but some)...and Brit Hume has mentioned Free Republic a few times..

The latest being our poll showing how little we want McCain to be the GOP candidate for POTUS...

We can take adavantage of that kind of foot in the door...don't ya'll think...if we do some productive, positive things...rather than the constant sniping that has been happening for the last 2 weeks???

Absolutely perfect, Fishtalk!

You are doing what I've been arguing we all must do if we want to affect real change and have the right kind of impact. Casting a protest vote to punish the Republicans is fine, except when it winds up putting a Dhimmicrat in the seat in the RINO's place. Replacing a RINO with a viable conservative alternative during the primaries or even earlier in the process is the way to go.

Now, you're lined up to run for a local or state office, correct? Why not put your hat into the ring for Mike Castle's seat? Start floating the idea with the ladies at SCRWC and see how they react. It sounds like you've got the ideas and issues that this group wants to hear about, and Burns did say they were the most influential GOP group in the state...

Newt said some time ago that his desire is not to run but to make his issues central in the national political debate. IMHO, this is what he's doing and will continue to do. BTW, Tancredo said the same thing about his pressing the illegal immigration issues.

I envision more involvement from Newt in the future, but not as a presidential candidate. For one thing, I'd like to see Newt on these bipartisan commissions instead of the liberal Republicans who always seem to be on them.

Wow, I did not know that about Tom Delay. He lives to help children such as the many Foster children he has been caring for in the last several years.

Never forget that the Dems have had a bullseye painted on DeLay's forhead ever since he led the charge for Clinton's impeachment. He's a great guy they managed to destroy and has been one of the best conservative representatives Congress has ever known.

I cannot wait for his trial. Unless the judge and jury has been paid off, there is no way he'll be convicted of the pathetic charges used to oust him from Congress and destroy his political career.

And when he's found not guilty, I expect the socialist Dem's partners in crime, The NY Times and Washington Post, to mention it in microscopic print on page 36.

First, thanks for all your links and information today. Great stuff.

I hope you're right about Tony helping the White House address issues important to us.

Great catches here! Anyone who analyzes this at all and then realizes that under the hard left al murtha types all the dems really want is to cut and run, should see the dems in a new light.

They should realize that securing freedom in the middle east is not a 6 month project but will take years.Even after that there iwilalways be a US presence to some extent. That ties up lots of budgeted money that they(the rats) could be spending on welfare, bribes, cradle to grave govt care and other uses of govt. money that keep them in power which is all they really care about.

The dems are no better that terror types lite. They could care less about the country and it's long term welfare, only tomorrow and passing the buck to somewhere else.

It's bubba all over again, don't do anything the next adm. will take care of it.

I'm looking at him in an increasingly better light for '08.

I love Newt and there is no question that he's the most articulate and intellectual conservative politician living today. I don't give a damn about his divorces and look forward to watching him crush opponents in debates. The left and the media couldn't destroy the great communicator, Ronald Reagan, and I predict they'll not be able to destroy Newt either.

I agree, but only if we continue doing what we do and not trying to pander to whomever might be lurking.

This was one of the single items where Jay Rockefeller lost me. Here he sat on the committee itself, privy to all the information, first-hand, yet he said he found things out from reading the NY Times. He truly is asleep at the wheel.

Newt is a brilliant guy.

Unfortunately he has that 80/20% syndrome,at least 20% of the time he will say stuff that makes you want to hide under the bed. Either that or he will get caught pandering to the msm or left again.

He has the potential but I don't think it will happen.

Too many skeltons I am afraid and the religious right will never go for a twice divorced three times married man.

Yes, as I've said before, Newt has impressive negatives. However, Rudy has his share of baggage to bear. Now, whom does that leave? McCain, Romney...? Two years is a very brief time in which to find a candidate with no baggage who can establish a national identity acceptable to the constituency capable of electing him/her.

Either the purists give on something -Newt's divorces, Rudy on abortion, sanity in the case of McCain- or it's bye-bye Presidency. I'm open to suggestions. Perhaps Romney is doable, but somebody had better get him up on the step very quickly. I am open to suggestions.

Why not put your hat into the ring for Mike Castle's seat?

Wow. That's quite a tall order you must understand.

Hey, these ladies are ALL interested in running for an office as I discovered through my chit-chat. But heh, for me to go after a seat in the House, wow..well I gotta think about that. It never even crossed my mind.

But don't worry about me. I am one determined woman and consider myself the perfect age to be running for something, although I was thinking along the lines of county auditor or something. At least I am impressed by the ambition of these women and they are all very, very nice, truth be told. So a goal towards an elected office is not unheard of is what I'm saying here.

But to try an unseat Mike Castle? Man, you think more of me than I do! However, just tween you and I, read the news. Mike Castle had a small stroke just before the election. Hmmmm, health issues and all that. So who the hell knows.

An ambitious Christine O'Donnell ran on a write-in vote and got 12,000 write-ins! The Republican nominee only got 19,000 all together so go with me again, this state of Delaware is in a state of flux. It's not just me is what I'm saying here.

So who the hell knows? But I like it.
