At stake is nothing less than the survival of human civilisation

We have the opportunity to become the Greatest Generation, responding to our climate debate but only if we take urgent action to limit global warming.

Al Gore: 'There is a reason why new scientific research is peer-reviewed'
A former colleague of mine in the US Senate, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, once said: "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts." I was reminded of this upon reading the Viscount Monckton of Brenchley's two submissions to The Sunday Telegraph.
To begin with, there is a reason why new scientific research is peer-reviewed and then published in journals such as Science, Nature, and the Geophysical Research Letters, rather than the broadsheets. The process is designed to ensure that trained scientists review the framing of the questions that are asked, the research and methodologies used to pursue the answers offered and even, in some cases, to monitor the funding of the laboratories all in order to ensure that errors and biases are detected and corrected before reaching the public.
That level of scrutiny is typically not applied to newspaper columns, of course, but since the stakes are so high in the debate over the climate crisis, I would like to review here just a few of the misleading claims in Viscount Monckton's submissions to illustrate my belief that readers of The Sunday Telegraph should rely upon more reliable and authoritative sources than the Viscount for information on the latest climate science.
First, Monckton claims that Dr James Hansen of Nasa said that the temperature would rise by 0.3C and that the sea level would rise by several feet. But Hansen did not say that at all, and the claim that he did is extremely misleading. In fact, Dr Hansen presented three scenarios to the US Senate (high, medium, and low). He explained that the middle scenario was "most plausible" and, as it turned out, the middle scenario was almost exactly right.
Monckton goes on to level a serious accusation at the scientists involved in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, claiming that they have "repealed a fundamental physical law" and, as a result, have misled people by exaggerating the sensitivity of the Earth's climate to extra carbon dioxide.

Is Gore talking about Islam?
That was as far as I could read.
Hey Algore, the Greatest Generation were those that lived, worked and fought through WWII, you know, the ones that gave everything so you can spew your vile filth under the guise of science.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
Quick, don't think. Just give me absolute power right now! I know what to do because I care.
Watermelon: Green on the outside, Red on the inside.
Global Warming can ultimately result in what was once known as a "hot summer" or worse, what was unknowingly called a "mild winter". We can stand idle no more.
Good Read. Thanks!
To be sure, CO2 levels have increased substantially since the Industrial Revolution, and are expected to continue doing so. It is reasonable to believe that humans have been responsible for much of this increase. But the effect on the environment is likely to be benign. Greenhouse gases cause plant life, and the animal life that depends upon it, to thrive. What mankind is doing is liberating carbon from beneath the Earth's surface and putting it into the atmosphere, where it is available for conversion into living organisms.

"Some of us worry about a resurgent militant Islam and its attendant complications, some of us worry about global warming. In 20 years' time, one of us will be proved right and the other will look like an idiot."
Sorry, Al, I'm afaid you're the idiot.

He's right, and if we keep listening to whackos like him, we won't make it.
Dear heavens, Al! Step away from the feeding trough.
Blah blah blah, yada, yada, yada, [spit]

Right - but are the peers objective? When it comes to global warming, they are probably the true believers. So being "peers" is meaningless.
What is the effect of a gasoline that you can burn in your car that reduces pollution from Carbon Monoxide, Nitrous Oxide and Total Hydrocarbons to zero upon this supposed crisis?
