Education: The San Francisco Board of Education is terminating an honorable armed forces leadership training program, spiting the very people who would protect the city from attack.
It was to the delight of Left Coast peaceniks and Bay Area military haters when the board voted 4-2 Tuesday to phase out the system's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program over a two-year period.
Right after Veterans Day, the board redeployed the 1,700 student cadets who voluntarily participate in JROTC at 17 of the district's 21 high schools. Never mind that the kids themselves defended the program.
The board coldly brushed aside the tears of the high schoolers and bruited about the armed services' don't-ask-don't-tell policy on gays as key to the vote.

"They need their federal funds yanked. Bigtime."
They need their citizenship yanked, so they can't hold office, work, or live in the US.
Oh, the heck with halfway measures. Put a bounty on them.
This crap hole and all the birkenstock-wearing, kumbayah-chanters that live in it need to slide off in the Pacific Ocean.
Disgusting.
You know, I had told my husband about this when it was first posted earlier this week. He just couldn't believe that this was true as he was sure that if true, the schools would lose federal funding. When I tried to explain to him that no, they hadn't lost nor had I read anywhere that they were going to lose that funding, he just didn't believe me.
Thank you so much for posting the link to this article that explains just how much federal funding they are receiving and how it seems they will continue to receive it.
Yank their federal funds the minute they enforce this ruling and let them all go pound sand if God forbid something happens where they need federal help.
If the media can be trusted, the membership of the Junior ROTC was predominantly Chinese-American, Vietnamese-American and Japanese-American.
Not surprised at all to see the "leftcost" wingnuts taking out after the Asians ~ their counterparts in the East are craftily preparing to start burning Jews again.
It's dollars to doughnuts that Daily Kos was on the side of shutting down JROTC ~ just like they support the growth of a vigorous antisemitic movement.
Thanks, Kyla!
Can't argue with that.
Man, that's an interesting piece of information. Another interesting detail is that 33% of all JROTC kids are black. I think the left realizes that blacks are being siphoned away from their ranks by the pride and achievements they can get from military life. I am absolutely sure of this, by the way, I know too many examples of black kids getting a sense of achievement from exposure to military life.
San Francisco can defend itself.
How about a boycott of San Francisco?
I will not visit there again. My son will have to come down here.
I also believe that the Department of the Navy needs to cancel its yearly tradition of holding "Fleet Week" in San Fransisco in 2007...
I'm sure the revenue generated by the tourism and military personel coming in for that event would put a nice little pain (of lacking) into the city coffers...
That will have an immediate effect on the city government...
.
San Francisco's Sister City is now Communist enslaved Saigon, Vietnam.
America's Military, whose mission San Francisco refuses to support, has always been about bringing Freedom to others.
Putting a broad smile on GOD's Face.
Praise GOD that...
LOVE is the only reality and that...
GOD is LOVE..?

Califoria Nazis? I hate California Nazis!
The liberal Nazis think underage teenage girls can make an abortion decision on their own, but on the other hand teens can't decide for themselves on joining the military. Just more evidence of liberal hypocrisy, not that I needed to convince anyone on here.
Wanna bet?
You make a good point.
Considering that the ship I served on in the fleet was part of every Fleet Week if we were not deployed to the I.O. or Persian Gulf during the 80's, I cannot see where anywhere in California an event of the PR magnitude of Fleet Week would be better than in L.A. Harbor...
Since San Diego sees ships more than cowpatties in Texas, thats pretty much out...
But I'm not so sure I get the gist of your term of "deserving"???
If you are implying that I believe there are no ports "worthy" of the Navy's participation in a California Fleet Week, I think my alternative suggestion is a good one...
I am strongly, and have suggested earlier this year before the last Fleet Week that the Navy pull out in 2006...But the timing was a bit too late...
I strongly suggest with the negative military attitude of the "supervisors" (not so much the folks) in San Fransisco, I really think it is appropriate to move the event to another city on the west coast...Not forgetting that Seattle is a great town, and should have one from time to time...
Spread the wealth I say...San Fransisco needs a good flushing...Which is a nicer term than I had originally intended to use...
At least until the city government gets its collective head out of its arse...If they wish to continue disrespecting the military in general, they I say we should honor that, and take the celebration elswhere...
Don't get me wrong...I really like San Fransisco...Its a great town with a fantastic history, people and atmosphere...Its not there fault, but since I doubt a solid message will come from those folks to the city government, then the next thing should be this change of plans...
