Thanks..now it sort of comes back to me. Many years ago, I did do some pheasant hunting with a pal, and all I could remember was him putting the birds breast up, and he'd stand on the spread wings and do something similar.
Proposition 3 was destined to lose here in Michigan. The HSUS dumped over a half million dollars into the anti-dove hunting campaign and successfully sued the state to put a temporary ban on the hunting. 2005 was the first year we ever had the hunt and it was very limited as to where they could be shot.
This year we don't know how much they spent yet on their intense advertising campaign but you can bet it was alot. And with the ads they were running, there was no way they were going to lose.
The Prop 3 supporters blew this one but they really didn't have a chance anyway. They should have focused all their attention on the financial backing and agenda of the HSUS instead of a lame attempt to say dove hunting is fun and they taste good.......The sight of a freshly shot dove flopping on the ground which was used by HSUS resulted in overwhelming support for voting down the proposal.......
In the last two months he has advocated legalized marijuana and embryonic stem cell research - both for geriatric care.

As you probably know, the Fund for Animals and the HSUS merged in 2005 to create a powerful lobby to funnel money into state and federal campaigns. From the HSLF:
Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF) is a social welfare organization incorporated under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. HSLF works to pass animal protection laws at the state and federal level, to educate the public about animal protection issues, and to support humane candidates for office.
Most animal protection organizations are non-profit charities and, as such, are limited in their lobbying work. Even if you combine their spending on public policy lobbying, you’d find that the total is miniscule compared to that of our opponents. The NRA, for example, spends tens of millions of dollars each year on lobbying and political activity. Our other political opponents—including the American Farm Bureau, the National Pork Producers Council, Safari Club International, and Ringling Bros.—have huge war chests. We are at a distinct and often overwhelming disadvantage when we attempt to push sweeping and meaningful reforms.

HSLF publishes the Humane Scorecard, which tracks the voting records of members of Congress, as well as a Voter Guide, which makes recommendations for supporting humane candidates. We also operate the Humane Action Network, which organizes thousands of volunteers and calls them to action on important issues, and publish HumaneLines, a free electronic newsletter with news and action alerts. She may have seemed nice on his show, but you should read some of her actual quotes, among them wishing to bring hoof and mouth disease to the U.S. Also, Newkirk, one of the founders of PETA, has led that organization to funding legal costs of terrorists (AR terrorists) who firebomb research facilities, etc.
It has to be noted the HSUS and the PETA have, over the years, shared the same leaders, same board members (including extreme radicals who believe in violence toward its goals), and although the HSUS tries to convey an image of being an animal welfare group, the leaders are animal rights activists, which is far more extreme.
I am sure Harvey knows this, there is so much info out there on the two organizations and what they actually stand for.

You are absolutely right, and would be surprised at the freepers on here that believe the HSUS is about helping animals.
The NWTF, NRA, SCI, USSA and others need to get the word out more about exactly WHAT these AR groups are about, and it aint just about hunting.

Hard to believe he went to a University not far from here.
I saw nothing anti-hunting about it, just a humorous poke at a truly weird turn of events that ought to be seen as cooky at best.
Maybe it helps to have no perspective or agenda when listening to his pieces.
He was poking fun, not saying that this was a 'great thing'.

I made no argument; I did make a general comment (which, with some work, could be expanded into an argument). But since it is my view that making what is clearly a general comment on a specific thread doesn't seem objectionable, to that extent I agree that it "reveals something significant about the person who does it".
Hunters don't kill just for the fun of it. They hunt for the fun of it, and the fun of it is much broader than killing.
I think in most instances that's probably true. But at the heart of the activity is the taking of an animal's life. I find that to be an ugly act unless it is done for food, for the protection of people or their possessions, for culling individuals for the protection of a larger population, or for other such reasons. I don't find hunting as a purely recreational activity to have many redeeming qualities.
Most hunters will probably disagree with me; those within my own extended family certainly do.
I made the mistake a long while back equating the oppositon to dove hunting to our Michigan Humane Society. I suspect the HSUS has deliberately tried to imply their association with same via their "Humane Society...." moniker when in reality they have no affiliation. That being said, I do not support the Michigan Humane Society but rather support the pet rescue groups that save discarded pets from their ultimate fates at the hands of the MHS..........
If you ever get up here to Michigan in January or February, drop me a line and I'll take you out for some great perch fishing if the weather is good. Good meaning subfreezing weather, lake frozen over and sunny skies........... :)

I shoot animals, I eat animals, I am an animal. I have incisors to tear my meat into chewable sized pieces if I forget my knife. I possess the means to protect my right to perform the above.
No amount of lawyerly/politician-like gobbblygook, such as your lame reply, will dissuade me from the aforementioned activities. Get over your preachiness. Your unwillingness to embrace your manhood in no way bestows upon yourself the slightest modicum of moral superiority.
If you are a woman, the last sentence does not apply, and I will substitute a big "Whatever, get me a beer."
