Rove May Leave Within Weeks
U.S. News & World Report ^ | November 17, 2006

Posted on 11/17/2006 12:00:02 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

The rumors that chief White House political architect Karl Rove will leave sometime next year are being bolstered with new insider reports that his partisan style is a hurdle to President Bush's new push for bipartisanship. A key Bush advisor tells the US News Political Bulletin, "Karl represents the old style and he's got to go if the Democrats are going to believe Bush's talk of getting along." The advisor said a departure might come in "weeks, not months." A Rove ally, however, noted that he has a record of out-witting his critics.

"I thought they had a plan to handle two Supreme Court nominations, they didn't."

They might not have but it didn't matter. We still great two great Justices.

To the Democrats "getting along" is surrendering to them.

In other words, you agree with what they say and do and vote as they do.

Similar as to what the Senate has done since '04.

For cryin' out loud. All Bush has DONE is try to get along with libs who have absolutely no interest in doing the same.

Although I am also considering the source of this report..

And he certainly did that the first few months, before Jeffords stabbed him in the back and then 9/11 happened and he realised the democrats weren't ready to do what needed to be done.

I think that part of the "strategery", implicitly, was that if he'd go along with some of the Dems' spending projects (No Child Left Behind, Farm Bill etc.) they'd not sabotage him/us on WOT, in Iraq and elsewhere, i.e. if Congress wants to spend some more money, let them be happy and leave me do the life-or-death stuff. They did sabotage, that's what they do. Like his father's breaking "No new taxes" pledge to appease liberals, both WOT/Iraq and spending were used against him (Iraq starting with Kerry's 2004 campaign).

Don't some folks find the combination of your position and your screen-name confusing?

I could ask the same of you. Does anyone take these handles seriously? For all my reputation as a Bushbasher, I also Bushbot from time to time. It's a mixed bag.

I keep waiting for JohnRob to let us keep our accounts and change our handles. Nothing yet but I think he will tackle it someday.

Tell that to some of the whiners here in FR.

The whiners and the cheerleaders both. As conservatives and partisans, we've far too often focused on Bush, a singular personality, and failed to hold Congress to account.

Bush is not and should not be our icon. A conservative agenda in Congress would solve the grousing over the personality of Bush. Well, it would have. And Bush is gone in two years so it's high time to get our act together.

I thought they had a plan for the elections; they didn't. I thought they had a plan for Syria; they don't. I thought they had a plan for Iran; they don't.

No plan? Placing US troops on either side of Iran's border hardly seems like "no plan". As for the election, place your blame on the people who didn't get everything they wanted (in wartime of all times) so decided to "teach a lesson to the GOP". Sounds like a better use of your time than blaming Rove.

While I agree with you 1000% that we don't want to get along with dems I disagree with you on George Bush. Bush said repeatedly as a candidate that he wanted to set a new tone in DC and that he had a track record of getting along with dems in Texas etc etc He also said he would be a compassionate conservative (whatever that is).

So anyone who voted for George Bush voted for the lesser of evils against Gore and was fully told in advance that Bush would not serve as a partisan President. Bush did what he said he was going to do. Only we don't like it.

The only way to get along with dems is to do what they want. Rove leaving has nothing to do with it.

Tantrums brought this disaster and they're not through stamping their feet and banging their drums against republicans that don't measure up to their standards.

Exactly right OldFriend. They won't be happy until politicians cave to their every whim, no matter how impractical it is and no matter who gets power as a result of their screaming hissyfits.

Rove has been magnificent ! I'm offended by those piling on because we lost a close one when the candidates themselves are to blame. W is committed to some semblance of stability in the ME, Rove is committed to much the same and judges, and good conservative causes, generally.

Since W's elections are over, Rove is better utilized working on '08 for whomever. I'll bet he's been asked by several potential Republican Presidential candidates.

If one were to give a closer look at these elections they'll find that many of the losers on our side lost because they stood against the President on major issues.

Rove HAS been magnificent but even he couldn't fight against the turncoat voters in our own party. Now they have to reap what they've sown and all they're reaping so far is sour grapes. They shouldn't blame Rove, they should look in the mirror instead.
