Diary of her Final Days
http://www.americanthinker.com/comments.php?comments_id=6627 ^

Reading this horror story of the final days of a British cancer patient coping with the debt ridden, underfunded, medically lacking, rationed, delayed, bureaucratic, government run system should remind us of the nightmare that awaits us if even half of Senator Clinton’s health care agenda passes: It’s eight months since I collapsed and was taken to hospital, where I was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer. Because of my age – 57 – I was told that very little could be done for me, and that I had up to six months left to live. I then discovered that because of the cash crisis in the (British)NHS, treatment is rationed to those who are most likely to recover, and if you suffer from more than one form of cancer, you don’t fall into that category.

I think that Hillary and those that tout universal health care have this vision that our health care system will be kept largely intact, just that it will be free. Nothing could be further from the truth. It will destroy our health care system and turn it into just another bloated bueracracy. In response to this, a second tier system will develop for those with the money to pay for what they want.

Maybe it's just me - did anyone else catch the upcoming Frontline program on what it's like to get older and sicker in this country? Are they preparing us for being asked to step aside when we get to a certain disability level under a new health care system?

I have been hearing for years that "socialized medicine" is coming, just get used to the idea. This is from doctors and nurses. I wonder why they are so sure, do they know something? I say this as a nurse but not a member of the ANA or any professional nursing organization - maybe I'm out of the loop on this.

Of course it will. The same is happening in Ireland. There were several stories in the Times of people being left on gurneys in the hallways for days last summer during my visit. This is the new, "better" system waiting in the wings for all of us if Hillary's socialism prevails.

I don't understand the aversion to health bills. We are not wealthy, and we have a medical debt of about $15,000. We are diligently trying to pay that off.

Why would the only argument be that national health care is needed for me to receive treatment? We ARE paying the doctors and the hospitals. And they are gladly accepting our monthly payments because they have patients who never pay a dime.

Everyone keeps telling us that medical bills cannot affect your credit rating, that we are foolish to try to pay it off, that we should apply for medical bankruptcy, etc.

And yet, we diligently write the checks and the debt is decreasing at a snails pace. BUT, the doctors will be paid.

Why is our decision to be responsible attacked with such derision?

And why can't this woman in Britain also pay for her medical bills?

My husband reminds me that health care amounts to seven percent of our economy. And handing that over to the government will be a fiscal catastrophe.

Don't forget the other side. When a baby is premature, care will also be rationed this way as well. My father was born in Germany in '44. He was premature and his mother was told that they would not care for him because he would probably die. They sent them home and he was fed through a dropper or thimble or something. He is now 62.

I am also sure that with my dad's prostate cancer Gleason score of 9(10 is the highest, and my dad was the only 9 his doctor had seen in his entire career) , they wouldn't have done anything. He is a 10 year survivor, cancer free, fit as an ox and still paying an obscene amount on his quarterly taxes.

This is what I have always figured would be the outcome. The older and more infirm you are will put you in the end of the line. Next cost saving measure to add .. Euthanasia

She cant because they have socialized medicine and thats not an option in Britain as well as Canada. You certainly have my prayers and respect and God Bless. Thats why Hillary should never be allowed anywhere near the Oval Office. Our medical system in the U.S. is one of, if not the greatest, in the World and we dont need her screwing it up.

I wonder if the Medicare prescription drug program was designed to fail so that people would clamor for something else.

My mother is able to get one of her expensive meds for free from the company that makes it. The others that she takes she can get at a discount that her local pharmacist gives her. As a contrast, the Medicare program she signed up for cost almost 50 dollars a month and she would have had to pay 15 dollars per prescription. She pays less than the total of her premiums and her copay and doesn't need the government program since it actually cost her more. (big surprise~!)

Oh, heavens, of course not, you silly thing! Hillary & Co. will do it the right way. They will not stray from the path, unlike the British NHS.

I mean, after all, isn't that what we hear about socialism/communism? They've been murderous failures where ever and whenever its tried. But, the Left assures us, that's b/c (fill in the blank), but this time...

That's right - socialism/communism will work well when they mandate it because they're really smart people and we need to trust them. And if the rest of you uneducated, unenlightened plebeians refuse to comply, you'll be arrested and fined and jailed if necessary, for the "Common Good".

Of course, Hillary and her minions will have their own "private" doctors and clinics to go to (secretly, of course), because why should wonderful, well-intentioned people like Them be made to suffer all because stupid people like the rest of us can't seem to make their perfect Utopian schemes work the way they're supposed to?

You are not kidding! I have had my policy for a number of years. I will never have to go to a nursing home on Medicaid, I can go to a top flight private facility. I can stay at home with 24 hour care, if necessary. The only problem will be finding reliable care takers.

The odds of needing LTC are greater than the odds of your house burning down, etc. My kids will never be burdened. It is a most valuable insurance I have.

They know that big business wants socialized medicine to take it off their hands.

First, labor unions turned health care into an entitlement, now that we think we shouldn't have to pay for it, we will beg the government for it because businesses can't afford it any more. Sigh.

"And why can't this woman in Britain also pay for her medical bills?"

You should be glad you can afford to pay your own medical bills for cancer treatments. My sister-in-law's medical bills for her cancer treatments totaled $1.1 million. Even after insurance covered its part, the bills were huge.
