DeLay Successor Seeks Inquiry Into Missing Computer Files
By Charles Babington Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, November 17, 2006; A04
Just when it seemed things could get no stranger regarding the House seat once held by Texas Republican Tom DeLay, his successor called for an investigation into missing computer records last night, and an aide accused her of "disrespect and unprofessionalism."
Rep. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs (R-Tex.), who is warming the 22nd District seat for only a few weeks, said that former DeLay employees apparently deleted the office's computer files shortly before they walked out, en masse, on Tuesday.
The records dated from her assumption of the office Nov. 8 and did not involve matters related to the former majority leader, Sekula-Gibbs said in an interview in her unadorned office in the Cannon Building. Those who erased the records, she said in a statement, "have harmed the 22nd congressional district" and "brought shame to this office." She has asked for an investigation.
David James, DeLay's former chief of staff, who stayed to work for Sekula-Gibbs -- until Tuesday's walkout -- said last night that the office computers "were scrubbed and reconfigured by an outside vendor in the days immediately prior to her assuming office," as House policies require. The new congresswoman was given a copy of everything "electronically or in hard copy, or both," James said in a statement.

Maybe it is just as well that she lost the full term. Let's nominate a real candidate in '08
Preferably, one without a hyphenated name.
Yeah, and make sure y'all got a "Plan B" back-up candidate with a name like "Smith" or "Carson".
Of course the Washington Post is going to try to make hay with this now.thank yo MS shekulahoola-gibbyjibby
Of all the stupid things the GOP could have done... running a write-in candidate with that kind of name.
Why the publicity on this drama?
Seriously lady, just go ahead and spend the next two weeks visting the tourism attractions in the nations capital and stay away from actual politics.
Someone from the area said she gave her name as Sekula-Gibbs in her publicity because she was known to most of the voters by her earlier name of Sekula. So it made sense to use it.
I've also heard she's pretty good. I don't know if that's true, but let's not let the Washington ComPost define her for us. Let's see what she's really like first.
""Never has any member of Congress treated us with as much disrespect and unprofessionalism as we witnessed during those five days.""
Anybody have the inside scoop as to what she did to them exactly?
I have been seeing reports of a screaming, kicking temper tantrum.
man, this woman is an absolute joke! she is filling out less than two months in congress and the whole thing has turned into a massive trainwreck
I am sure that the proper authorities will give her request every consideration.
And come January, they will say good-bye.
Was she just annoyed that none of them were really applying themselves? You can't really expect much out of another congressman's staff in a lame duck session who are facing unemployment in a few weeks.
Beats me. I tend to favor the staffers. For that many in TWO different offices to walk out, she must be a real wacko.

She showed up to take over DeLays old office on Thursday and, according to sources familiar the office dynamics, was mean to the staff. On Tuesday, at her new Members open-house reception in the office, sources charged that she was less than pleased that neither President Bush nor Vice President Cheney showed up with the rest of the welcome wagon, despite the fact that others who stopped by included Texas GOP Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn and Texas GOP Reps. Kevin Brady and Michael Burgess. (Apparently, according to sources, she was under the impression that the president of the United States would be there to greet the seven-week Congresswoman.)[/quote]
Why in gods name would she expect the President to stop by? It isn't like she will be around for long. She has to understand her situation. She will be in congress for seven weeks. Half that time they will be out of session. It isn't like she will make a real difference in such a short time. She should be very appreciative to get the chance to be a congresswoman and should have enough class to be sympathetic to her inherited staff who are facing unemployment in the face.
Come on. You really don't think that entered their conciliatory minds. After all, they had to put their knowledge into defeating Kathrine Harris & their mojo into saving Linc Chaffee.
Seriously. They couldn't find a Smith or Jones republican ANYWHERE in that state?
