A statewide canvass of the Nov. 7 election results shows Democrat Jim Webb beat Republican U.S. Sen. George Allen by 9,329 votes, the State Board of Elections said Thursday.
The results will not be official until they are certified by the board Nov. 27, but the statewide canvass is complete.
Barbara Cockrell, the board's deputy secretary, said the official results may differ slightly from those posted Tuesday.
Webb received 1,175,606 votes to Allen's 1,166,277 - a difference of 0.39 percent out of 2,370,445 votes cast, the canvass showed. Independent Green candidate Glenda Gail Parker received 26,102 votes, and there were 2,460 write-ins.
Webb rang up huge margins in northern Virginia.
The Webb-Allen race was the last Senate contest decided, and it tipped control of the Senate to the Democrats. Allen conceded the race on Nov. 9, saying "the prevailing winds were against us."
~sigh~
Thanks, VA.
So Virginia wants a guy as their senator who wrote perverted books including portraying incestous pedophilia and love a former governor who raised their taxes. Sorry Virginians, but your state is now in the wacko category along with my state of California, Massachusetts and New York. You've seriously lost your state to a bunch of left wing freaks.
last time I'll ever use Macaca *salutes*
The Muslims' choice.
Nancy Pelosi and they Main Stream Media need your address, so they can send you a gift basket.
Oh get over yourself.
Allen lost on a night when Republicans were losing NATIONWIDE. You can't blame all of this on Virginia.
As for your assessment of our state, let's review...
We retained ALL EIGHT of our GOP Congresscritters. You can't blame VIRGINIA for Speaker Pelosi.
We still have two out of three statewide offices (Lt. Governor and Attorney General).
We still control both Houses of the General Assembly. Granted the Senate is full of RINOs, but they're still Rs.
The Marriage Amendment past by a HUGH margin.
So, tend to your own house. Granted we're a lot more purple than we used to be.
But we've hardly lost our "state to a bunch of left wing freaks."
You keep saying that. Can you document those votes?
Marriage Amendment passed...
Not one voting irregularity!!!!
I guess not. It's sad. But we have to go on. The Moderates and Indpendents sent us a message. Most Republicans voted straight R - its the Independents and Moderates who changed the outcome.
"So Virginia wants a guy as their senator who wrote perverted books including portraying incestous pedophilia..."
How many votes did we lose by looking like the party that doesn't know the difference between literature and life?
You have a left wing governor who replaced another who left office with a huge approval rating after hiking taxes and now a senator who writes books about fathers going down on their sons. Not even California would elect a loser like that. And if a governor here raised taxes, he'd be recalled, not given a 60% approval rating and his hand-picked successor would not have the red carpet rolled out for him into the governor's mansion.
No need to get nasty. Even California retains its Republican congresspeople too. Doesn't change the fact that my state, and now yours, are in the wacko column. Direct your anger at the voters of your state, not at me.
You call that literature?
It was not the Republicans who gave us a Democrat Congress and Senate - it was the Moderates and independents all over the country. They sent us a message and we still aren't listening even today. We are still blaming Republicans only. We don't have the majority to win - whether we like it or not we NEED the Independents and Moderates. I feel really bad for Allen. I hope he makes a comeback!
It doesn't take a high percentage of independents to change the outcome. Not to mention, writings aside, Webb wasn't the most liberal candidate.
Democrat voter fraud! I demand an investigation.
Webb actually gained votes in the final count. American lost a great man.
What's distrurbing is that Fairfax voted against the anti-gay marriage ballot. Also Loundon and Prince William Counties gave so-so approval to the anti-gay marriage amendement. To remain viable in the future, the VA GOP needs to find a way to appeal to Loundon and Prince William counties and hold down their losses in Fairfax.
Once again the third party candidate delivers the election to the dems and right now FR is full of people saying they want to start a third party or will vote third party in 2008.... I guess there is a lot of people that are desperate to see Hillary as President and ruin this country.
