WASHINGTON -- Like many fellow Democratic politicians, Sen. Barack Obama is no stranger to the pulpit.
But in December, Obama will go where few progressive Democrats usually venture--to a large, conservative evangelical church that boasts a Sunday attendance of more than 20,000 people.
Even more unusual is that he'll attend at the invitation of megachurch Pastor Rick Warren, evangelical icon and author of the popular Christian book "The Purpose-Driven Life."
Aides to Obama say he will appear at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., on Dec. 1, World AIDS Day.
"Sen. Obama has a deep respect for Mr. Warren's commitment to fighting AIDS and poverty," said Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor.
While he was working on his latest book, "The Audacity of Hope," Obama asked Warren to help by reading one of his draft chapters. Warren issued the invitation to Obama to speak at the church next month.
The messages that Friday will focus on AIDS and HIV, a key area of ministry for Saddleback Church. While many conservative Christians have shied away from AIDS because of their discomfort with its connections to premarital sex and homosexuality, Warren and his wife, church co-founder Kay Warren, have been vocal advocates for patients living with the disease.
Shortly before the release of his latest book, Obama issued a call to progressives to shed bias against religious people and to recognize "overlapping values."

GAG!
Democrats are working on publishing a new book: "The Purpose Driven Abortion"
This proves that Rick Warren has flipped out. I hope the IRS monitors the Obama speech carefully, if one word of politics comes out of his liberal mouth, the IRS should strip Saddleback of any tax exemption status.
I knew Warren was actually liberal in disguise! How can he have a person come and speak to the church who believes in Abortion? I've completely lost all respect for Warren!
Same place Bill Clinton went to find solace and fame
Saddleback isn't a church; it's a town.
I thought Clinton went to Hybel's church.
Now CNN, Washington Post et al will proclaim mega-churches as kewl cuz so many African-American stop by them on Sunday morning.
WE know that the criticism is actually ONLY reserved for conservative politicians...
So Warren and Obama will get a pass if not total praise.

Real Estate Fairy visits pols who believe
Published November 15, 2006
.........
Children don't believe in this one, but prominent Chicago politicians do, especially those hoping for discounts on the purchase of their expensive homes:
The Real Estate Fairy.
Sadly, the Real Estate Fairy isn't a cute blond pixie with gossamer wings. Instead, he's a bald Syrian guy with ear hair and dark suits, hanging around politicians, writing campaign checks.
Rather than use wings, the Real Estate Fairy has federal indictments stuck under his arms, the better to hover about helpfully during closings.
Who is the Real Estate Fairy?
Why, none other than Antoin "Tony" Rezko, the indicted one.
That's what I've been reading, first in the Chicago Tribune and then in the Sun Times. He doesn't visit taxpayers, just politicians.
The Tribune disclosed Rezko's curious real estate relationship with U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, the Chicago Democrat walking on water to the White House.
The Real Estate Fairy and Obama bought adjoining property. The Real Estate Fairy paid the asking price for his parcel; Obama paid less than the list for his and, presto, Obama had a home in Kenwood and a nice vacant lot next door.
Obama said that if he had to do it all over again, he wouldn't, since it didn't look right, perhaps because all of political Illinois knew that Rezko was by then toxic, infected with federal grandjuryitis.
And the other day, in the Sun-Times, the Real Estate Fairy struck again:
This one involves U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, the Chicago Democrat who was a star in my column a few years ago for paying a measly $275 in yearly property taxes on a $340,000 home.
Gutierrez ended up forking over thousands of dollars in back taxes after those columns. He was so angry that for years, his tiny fists clenched whenever I approached.
According to the Sun-Times account, Rezko was developing a condominium project along the Chicago River. And Gutierrez bought in at what is called pre-construction prices, which means he made a killing.
Gutierrez bought the condo in 2003 for $434,900 and paid less than the other investors. He sold it three years later for $610,000. Gutierrez, who bravely decided not to challenge Mayor Richard Daley for re-election, says the Real Estate Fairy had nothing to do with anything............"
What is Rick Warren thinking?
Saddleback, IIRC, is the largest southern baptist church in North America. It's just not right letting a guy who supports abortion politic in your church.
The worm has turned.
May Obama hear God's Word there, Amen.
May God's Word change Obama and not vice versa.
May God's Word change us all and not vice versa.
Amen
There were some other threads the other day re Warren's trip to Syria and this link was posted.

I accept your apology, not for myself, but for the millions of others who still haven't seen the real Rick Warren. Thank you!
PURPOSE DRIVEN PING!
WHOSE PURPOSE?

Indeed. I can't imagine the good Rick Warren is thinking will come of this... if he is thinking at all. There are far better resources on the subject of AIDS and HIV than the very liberal Barack Obama.
