Again, READ the article. He was leaving when he was assaulted.
So, you're trusting an article written by UCAL students about LEOs?
She said police tried to escort Tabatabainejad, 23, out of the library after he refused to provide identification. Tabatabainejad instead encouraged others at the library to join his resistance, and when a crowd began to gather, police used the stun gun on him, Greenstein said.
Could you direct me to the part where it says he was leaving like he was told to do???
You can't seriously be this dense.
Have you attended a University at all? Ever have to show your ID?
If I don't have my ID at a University facility as I'm supposed to - I don't belong there.
If a University COP (not just "someone")asks me to leave as a result of my not being able to prove my status as a student, I LEAVE.
Hence, no conflict with the campus security.
Do you have some other account of the story? Were you there?
Judging by the information available to us, the cops committed several crimes.
"He wasn't disruptive? What do you call all the shouting he did?"
He was being tasered. You would be pretty loud too if it was you being tasered.
Read the article. He was leaving as instructed when he was assaulted. You seem to want to ignore that fact.
My oldest daughter graduated from college last year. They had good security, vehicle and foot patrol and stations where a student could hit a beacon type light that would also call police.
The kids generally traveled in pairs. They did have a few on campus problems but most of them were late at night and on the edge of the campus.
My daughter never had any problems.
but i guess a lot more freepers would defend him if he was carrying a bible...
Again...
YOU read it again,, slowly now:

"I said I had a "right" to use them. If I pay for something I have a "right" to use it, it isn't a "privilege". It is a right. That doesn't mean I may use them as I wish."
IMHO, the word 'right' is widely and grossly abused. Freedom of speech is a right. Freedom from unreasonable search is a right. Driving is not a right. Being a jerk and disturbing the peace is not a right.
"When you say I have no "right" to use university libraries even though I pay tuition to the university, it is like saying I have no right to drive my car even though I have paid for it."
"True, I have to obey the law in using both, but I have an absolute "right" to the use of both because I paid for that "right"."
Rights don't come from the bank. IF that right was conveyed through the payment then that 'right' needs to be documented with a proper badge and proper behavior. If the conditions of that payment are not met then the 'right' ceases until the conditions are met.
Face it, the kid was a jerk and these kids learned more about the real world from this event than all 4 years of their indoctrination at this school.
you're kidding, right? you just took the word of one of the most liberal rags in the country as gospel. yes, i am sure he was leaving quietly. /sarc
Sure, here it is
"At around 11:30 p.m., CSOs asked a male student using a computer in the back of the room to leave when he was unable to produce a BruinCard during a random check. The student did not exit the building immediately.
The CSOs left, returning minutes later, and police officers arrived to escort the student out. By this time the student had begun to walk toward the door with his backpack when an officer approached him and grabbed his arm, at which point the student told the officer to let him go."
Had the cops who arrived "a few minutes later" just let him leave as he was told to do and was doing, there wouldn't be a story here.
Your source for that opinion is?
Leaving under what conditions? After having incited other people to violence or disorderly conduct? Leaving perhaps as a trespasser? Leaving perhaps with school property?
Trespassing and inciting people to violence are against the law. I believe the officers are well within their rights to stop someone and identify them especially if they may end up arresting him for breaking the law.
If I ask someone legitimately for ID and suspect them of trespassing, and then they tell other students to join him, then shame on him.
If I ask someone who has broken the law to stop and talk with me and he keeps walking, he might get tazered. Well, with me it would more likely result in me manipulating his elbow. But, with campus security, they are probably stuck having to use tazers.
As an anxious Mom. ~grin~
I'm glad to hear she didn't have problems.
I've specifically asked about just this scenario when students are studying into the wee hours at the library.
Once the doors are about to be locked for the night, most of the Universities have ID card swipe entry to ensure that only students remain in the library.
Several articles have been posted on FR on this incident. This one, from the student newspaper is the only one to claim he was in the act of leaving when approached by UCPD.
Placing your faith in the accuracy of a student newspaper is unwise.
The downside to this sorry POS's behavior is that the University will relax security measures in response to the stupid liberal/marxist outcry and some other student will be robbed or raped as a result.
Gotta run, I got subpoenaed for jury duty. hahahaha somehow I don't think they'll use me.
