"I said I had a "right" to use them. If I pay for something I have a "right" to use it, it isn't a "privilege". It is a right. That doesn't mean I may use them as I wish."

IMHO, the word 'right' is widely and grossly abused. Freedom of speech is a right. Freedom from unreasonable search is a right. Driving is not a right. Being a jerk and disturbing the peace is not a right.

"When you say I have no "right" to use university libraries even though I pay tuition to the university, it is like saying I have no right to drive my car even though I have paid for it."

"True, I have to obey the law in using both, but I have an absolute "right" to the use of both because I paid for that "right"."

Rights don't come from the bank. IF that right was conveyed through the payment then that 'right' needs to be documented with a proper badge and proper behavior. If the conditions of that payment are not met then the 'right' ceases until the conditions are met.

Face it, the kid was a jerk and these kids learned more about the real world from this event than all 4 years of their indoctrination at this school.

Ever heard of "property rights"?

"Rights don't come from the bank."

They do if the money from a bank is used to buy property, either real or contractual. In either case they are actual court enforceable "rights".

"IF that right was conveyed through the payment then that 'right' needs to be documented with a proper badge and proper behavior."

I never said otherwise. My point was that people who pay tuition have an absolute "right" to use university libraries. It's isn't a privilege.
