A 15-year-old boy has been detained for murdering an aspiring British politician in Washington DC. He had pleaded guilty to juvenile charges of murdering Alan Senitt, of Pinner, north-west London.
Mr Senitt, 27, had his throat slashed as he escorted a woman friend home in the city's Georgetown area in July.
The teenager, who also admitted to armed robbery and theft charges, was sentenced to juvenile custody until he is 21, at Columbia's Superior Court.
During the sentencing hearing, letters written by his parents Jack and Karen Senitt were read out.

"Every night we go to sleep hoping that it is all a nightmare and every day we awake to the same horror and the same pain," they wrote.
"There wasn't even any time to tell him how much we loved him, how proud we were of him.
"No time to hold him in his moment of greatest need. No time to kiss him and say goodbye."
Mr Senitt's girlfriend, Linda Kawalsky, wrote she had planned to move to London early next year to be with him.
Presidential campaign
"But since he was robbed of his life, I can barely look to tomorrow," she said.
Mr Senitt had just finished the first year of a two-year masters degree in international and diplomatic studies and had already established himself as a political activist.
He was working as a volunteer for the potential presidential campaign of former Virginia governor Mark Warner.
He had stood as a Labour councillor in the Edgware ward in north London.
Three adults, Christopher Piper, 26, Jeffrey Rice, 23, and Olivia Miles, 27, will also be put on trial for his murder.
I disagree with and abhor the victim's politics, but he surely didn't deserve to be murdered like that. I've been and stayed in Georgetown, DC, many times. That's a fairly heinous and uncommon crime for that upscale section of town. Hopefully justice will be served.
If he slit the man's throat, 6 years is not enough.
Of Course you are right. 6 years isnt very long for slitting a mans throat. There is little doubt in my mind this young man will turn into a career criminal. There is little doubt he will serve the better part of his life in one prison or another as after his release he will be looking for more victims.
However I will bet he was good to his grandmother and never gave her any cause to think he was a cold blooded killer. Thats life in Anacostia.
It is said of most cities that there are certain places you dont ant to go to. Georgetown isnt one of those places,its upscale, however that doesnt stop the Southeast residents from going over and making a score.
Georgetown may be "upscale", but it's not safe. I bet you can't even carry a concealed handgun for self-protection there, either. If so, it is a death trap...

A friend of mine knew the victims in this crime. The woman (whose name I can't recall right now) stopped speaking several weeks after this happened, once it all sank in. As in, she doesn't talk anymore. To anyone.

As a parent, I'd have apologized profusely to the victim, family and friends. I, along with my family, am deeply ashamed! I may also add, "When he turns 21, there will be further justice imposed upon my son by me"
Nobody deserves to be killed like that, irrespective of their politics.
All this hand-wringing over the perpetrators of these crimes sickens me. I dont mind the system being biased in favor of the defendent, thats fine - if sometimes frustrating. What I object to is the way it seems to be biased AGAINST the victims.
Er...the Senitt's were the parents of the victim.
The saying. "When guns are outlawed, Only outlaws will have guns" Must have been written for the District of Columbia.
The citizens of the District have gone to great effort to make things safe for their criminal element. No guns in DC period.
