FORMER US vice president Al Gore, now better known as an environmental activist, today praised Victoria's effort to tackle climate change.
Mr Gore met Victorian Premier Steve Bracks and Environment Minister John Thwaites for an hour today. The politician turned activist filmmaker gave his endorsement to Labor's initiatives on climate change as they fight for a third term in office at the November 25 Victorian election.
"The initiatives that have been laid out here are quite impressive to me," Mr Gore said to reporters after the meeting.
Mr Gore likened the situation in Australia to that in the US, saying that in both countries some states have been at odds with the federal government on climate change issues.
"Often what happens, has happened in the past, when the national political system has been too slow to respond, individual states have offered leadership.

Al Gore A.C. (After Clintons)

"Space monkeys are eating my braaains! ARRRGH!"
Not to worry, he gave his endorsement to Howard Dean in the Democratic primaries in 2004. Yeaaaaggghhhhhhhh!
LOL! Thanks for that.
Gore is seriously nuts!!!
We yanks have known that for way too long.
How can you trust a report in a newspaper with such sloppy journalistic values as this? They can't even spell the name of the Labour party correctly. Fair enough if it was the verb labour which can be spelled in the US and Australian subversions of English without the 'u', but surely a newspaper should know the difference between a noun and a verb? :-(
As for Gore, I think it's splendid that Labour are so desperate as to even talkto this loser - roll on the next election!
LOL! Ignore my last post - I hadn't read the article properly and assumed it was another article about Labour in the UK talking to gore. Sorry.
Regards, Ivan
My FRiend, the Australian Labor Party is spelt exactly that way.
It seems, and this is fair dinkum, the bloke who registered the name of the party had a spelling problem. Could well be said it's a Labor tradition!
Wonder if gouging landlord AlGore used UNION LABOR in fixing the long broken toilet of his totally ignored renters.
Well actually I wonder if he fixed it at all.
Everytime I flush my toilet I think of AlGore. Keep in mind that Jane Fonda went to Sweden to support the communist running for President and he lost, big time!
