n When we first started hearing about plans for the Trans Texas Corridor, no one in our area seemed to know or care much about it. Now, this project seems to be all people are talking about.
In the beginning, all we heard was a major highway would be built; we've found out that this is not quite true. It will be a toll road system with pipe lines and a rail system, and if you live in the north end of the county, it will not be "somewhere" else, it will either be at your front fence or back fence.
"They say" it won't be in our lifetime; however, last week in the Brenham Banner Press, there was an announcement from TxDot stating that there would be a public meeting on Dec. 4 in Brenham to discuss "US 290 Corridor improvements."
The TTC is not going through Washington County, but will cross US 290. They are already letting residents there know what changes will be in store for their area.
If this isn't going to be in our lifetime, why are they already doing this? Why aren't they passing out proposed highway changes for Grimes County? *
This should be a matter of public record and available to all residents that it is going to displace. There will be more than one TxDot offical at this meeting and it states that they will answer questions.
The main man that will be there is Robert A. Apppleton, P. E. Bryan Director of Transportation, Planning and Development. He can be mailed comments at 1300 N. Texas Ave, Bryan, Tx. 77803 or e-mail him at cbohne@dot.state.tx.us.
One lady I know when asked what she thought of the whole thing and the fact that if they wanted your land, they can take it, said, "Looks to me like the thing they should do is to run it down the main street in Navasota. It would be a lot easier to move a lawyer or a doctor's office than a couple hundred head of cattle."
n Bo Smith and his grandson Justin Scott had a great weekend hunting in our area. Justin killed an eight-point buck and Bo got a nine-pointer.
I wonder where all the deer will go when the TTC comes to our area? It will probably end up like many of the sub-divisions around Conroe that have deer eatting out of their flower beds and drinking out of their swimming pools.
PING!
Thank you for posting this. After all, many of us are just "alarmists", nothing to see here, move on people. Well, my wife, who works in abstract/title buisness for many years was right on, this project is going to disrupt many, many lives and for what?
I'm not really sure what the point of these meetings are. Overwhelmingly, the people who turn up are against the whole shebang, but the folks running this state ain't listening. They'll get this thing built if it kills you.
Pro TTC Ping!
This is a pro Trans-Texas Corridor ping list.

This is more pork barrel and one world Northern trade zone stuff. We figured that whether a Dim or Repub got in office, this thing would still go through like a greased pig through the hands of a six year old at the state fair.
Thanks for the ping!

LOL! Someone wrote this in the keyword.
You're welcome. :-)
BTTT
Is there anything we can do about this?
Those maps show the preliminary study areas which are much wider that the actual corridors will be.
How is this pork barrel? Private money will pay for the whole project, plus the contractors will pay the state for the privelege?
Pork barrel was probably the wrong choice of words. However, I'm native to this state, been involved in state affairs for a long time, a "Sr. citizen" (read: old toot) and I know Texas politics.
This project has unbelievable political pressure and when there's high level politics going on, there's other interests as well. No political favors? No payoffs? Er, okay, nothing to see here folks... Hey, this is the land of the Fergusons, of Lyndon Johnson and others of like mind and character.
And so far Texans have not voted on any of this, right?
Texas has a much higher population now than our road system was ever designed to handle. The gas tax barely generates enough revenue just to maintain the roads we have now. Our transportation problems will get worse unless we act now, because our population will double again by 2030.
Actually, Texans did vote to authorize constitutional amendments allowing toll roads to be built.
