There are LEGAL reasons the father should be listed. (what if the kid stands to inherit something nobody knows about yet?)
There are MEDICAL reasons that they might want to trace his genetic background.
The only reasons to have two womens names on the birth certificate are political correctness, selfishness, and feel goodisms.
None of which have anything to do with the welfare of the child.
Just stay away from New Jersey with your common sense.

Under state law, the husband of a woman who gives birth through artificial insemination is listed on the birth certificate as the father. No such provision is made for lesbian couples, who often go through lengthy and costly adoptions to give both women equal rights as parents.So, it seems the birth certificate does not address the genetic background issue for normal couples, either, when artificial insemination (or infidelity, for that matter) is involved.
HIS name will only be needed on the checks.
