Birth Certificate to Say Baby Has 2 Moms Nov 15 4:50 PM US/Eastern

By GEOFF MULVIHILL Associated Press Writer

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J.

Two women will be listed as parents on the birth certificate of a baby born this week in New Jersey, one of the first implications of a state Supreme Court ruling that gives same-sex couples access to the same rights as married couples.

The state and the women agreed in a closed family court proceeding Monday, the day before the child was born, that both women should be listed in light of the landmark high court ruling. A judge agreed with the state and the women, lawyers said.

In New Jersey, birth certificates are typically mailed to parents.

Assistant Attorney General Patrick DeAlmeida said the women are the first he knows of to take advantage of new rights granted by the Oct. 25 ruling.

The Burlington County women, who are registered as domestic partners, did not want their names made public, their attorney Stephen Hyland said.

Under state law, the husband of a woman who gives birth through artificial insemination is listed on the birth certificate as the father. No such provision is made for lesbian couples, who often go through lengthy and costly adoptions to give both women equal rights as parents.

I feel sorry for the child.

Really? I don't.

Two loving parents willing to risk bigotry and intolerance in order to provide a loving family.

Sounds pretty lucky to me.

"Sure they can! Just not with their preferred partners."

Say what? That is not breeding, that's HALF-BREEDING !

My grandfather would have sworn up and down there were only 48 States, that black people couldn't go to the same schools, and that America has fought its last war. He would have also known for a fact that the American farmer was the backbone of the American economy and that driving over 40 was a dangerous and foolish proposition.

Birth certicates should be reserved for biological information for the obvious biological/health/scientific reasons. It is stupid to deliberately create biologically inaccurate or incomplete birth records.

It is also disparate treatment. Non-biologically related (to the child) hetero parents have to adopt to become legal parents, why should't the non-bio related gay parent(s) have to adopt also.

The child is going to grow up with a warped sense of reality.

Carpet munching is not normal and no amount of court rulings will make it so.

These people need to stand back from the situation and take another look. There is some serious insanity happening.

At the end of the day, I couldn't care less who marries who.

I'm with you. A Birth Certificate is just a piece of paper. Look at all the children born every year with the Father listed as "unknown". It can be changed later if the child prefers. No worse in my mind than naming your child Blue Sky or Killer. It is the homosexuals desperate plea for acceptance and further demonstrates their insecurity.

"Two loving parents willing to risk bigotry and intolerance in order to provide a loving family."

And, the child gets the benefit of having either two mothers and no father, or two fathers and no mother, to prepare them for a life of sexual deviance?

Gimme a break...this non-traditional family unit (as it's called politically-correctly, I guess) is basically two grown sex deviates engaging in behavior of their own choosing and perversity, and then adopting a child to indoctrinate into the same depravity.

Is this a great country or what?????

The child will be just fine, I tink.

The only problem he will have when he is confronted with small-minded bigots.

present company excepted, of course.

"At the end of the day, I couldn't care less..."

That pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?

The article left out some information, like the sex of the baby (a boy or a girl), how the mother was inseminated (artificial or natural), and the role, legal responsibility of the biological father, etc. Our country is very, very sick.

Of what benefit is this politicized birth certificate to the child?

Legal benefit regarding health insurance, etc,

The child would receive "legal" benefits through his/her status as legally adopted.

As to the question then, there is no benefit to the child to having 2 females on a birth certificate, which is a medical/legal document. This is all about the lesbo parents and the statement they are trying to make - that should be obvious to everyone in this sad situation.

Of cousre it does. I'm not wrapped up in imposing my narrow sexual mores on others.

YMMV.

Why not do what the Spaniards now do.
No more "mother" or "father"
Just "Progenitor 1" and "Progenitor 2"

Welcome to the Socialist Brave New World.

Of course, they could have provided just as loving a family without the idiocy of defining one of them as the second "mother". A loving dog is just as loving whether the papers say Golden Retriever or Maine Coon, but calling a cat does not make it so.

Which "Mommy" gets the leaky breasts and the stretch marks and the weight gain and loopy hormones? Or have they somehow figured out a way to share all of that, too? ;)
