Emboldened Democrats to Urge Iraq Exit (Levin says within 4 to 6 months)

The Bush administration must tell Iraq that U.S. troops will begin withdrawing in four to six months, the next chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee said Wednesday, as Congress began re- examining U.S. policy in the wake of last week's Democratic election victory.
"We cannot save the Iraqis from themselves. The only way for Iraqi leaders to squarely face that reality is for President Bush to tell them that the United States will begin a phased redeployment of our forces within four to six months," Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., said at the outset of a hearing featuring the top U.S. commander in the Middle East.

Putting DemocRATs in charge of military policy is like putting the U.N. in charge of law. Equally Foolish.

Oh, NO question about their patriotism. Patriotism is one of those perfectly mindless things that can be practiced in your sleep. Now about their judgment, first they have to HAVE judgment, before it may be questioned.

let the cut and running begin, the Dems are always going to be remembered for allowing the helicopters on the roof moments ala Saigon, so at least Levin isn't messing around.
Cut and run Carl.

The blood of the entire nation of Iraq will be on their hands. Not that they care. The blood of the Vietnamese is on their hands as well for our withdrawal there.

What kind of stand is Bush willing to take on this?
If they try to cut off funding he can refuse to sign the bill or veto and shut down the government.
So what will it be?

We cannot save the Iraqis from themselves
No, Senator 'Pontius Pilate' Levin- men like you LACK THE WILL AND COURAGE to save the Iraqis from themselves. Just like "men like you" (and John Francois Kerry) piously turned away from the slaughter of millions of Vietnamese and Cambodians, and men like Kofi Annan and Bill Clinton turned away from 400,000 Rwandans, because "we couldn't save them from themselves".
Interesting how this time, unlike Vietnam, our troops on the ground are TELLING you not to turn away from the Iraqi people.
Now Senator, I think you need to go wash your hands.

This is why they were elected, for better or for worse. Not really. There were lots who wanted someone other than Rumsfeld to run the DOD but not to 'cut and run'. The Democrats didn't run on a unified platform in 2006 the way the Republicans did in 1994. DemocRATS will have a smaller majority in the House than the Republicans currently have. Furthermore, when the DemocRATS last had control they had much larger majorities. I'm not sure they know how to run it on a 24 seat majority.
