Supervisor Bevan Dufty isn't the only ally of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom unhappy with how the Police Department is being run -- other supervisors went to the mayor with concerns in the days leading up to Tuesday's vote forcing police to put a set number of foot patrols on the streets.
In addition to Dufty, who ripped into Chief Heather Fong in public at the board's meeting, Supervisors Sophie Maxwell and Fiona Ma have gone to Newsom's office to complain about policing in their districts.
Dufty -- who has met privately with Fong twice -- said he had complained to the mayor that the chief was uncommunicative and indecisive, and that morale in the Police Department is low.
Fong became the city's first female police chief when Newsom named her to the job in 2004. The mayor has stood by her as the city's homicide rate has risen, and he's standing by her now, telling the complaining supervisors that Fong isn't going anywhere.
Dufty's district includes the Castro, which was the scene of the Halloween night shootings in which nine people were wounded. He was upset that Fong's lack of public presence after the incident left him basically to face the cameras alone.

A guy in drag?
Ahhhh, diversity.
--there is no one on the face of the earth who could satisfactorily perform the duties of a
C of P in San Francisco--
San Francisco has no intention of fielding an effective police force. It's all about the PR and set-asides for the anointed favored classes.
Lesbian police chief...
Lesbian fire chief...

She looks like a tough guy..just like that Fire Chief in Minneapolis-St.Paul. Actually both are probably tougher than Joe Mokwa.

How dare they! She's Asian and Female!
Yup. If I was a criminal and I saw a 4' 11', 95 pound cop named Heather coming at me holding a copy of "I'm OK, You're Ok," I'd be scared, too...
