" And then they will bring up that racism charge all over again."

That's the first clip MSNBC played after announcing Trent's resuscitation.
Maybe Lott should have called Muslims " towel heads " instead.
Jim Webb, just weeks before the election did that in a Washington Post interview and it got almost zero publicity from the media.

Absolute insanity. With a few very rare exceptions, I really am beginning to question the Republicans, from the top on down the line.

I'm not thrilled. But he's just the number two guy. Mitch McConnell is about as conservative as you could get to be the Senate leader. And he will be calling the shots -- especially after Lott's time in the wilderness.

I never saw someone cave in so fast to the Democrats, which he did as Majority Leader. He had the power and threw it away.

The GOP is committing suicide.

I hear you. But, the guy is a power player. He has won again. Now winning for him depends on us winning. We have to get back to Majority for this position to mean anything other than being the center of Fort Apache. This is going to a hard hard job. Other than McConnell, Lott is the toughest old bird in the Senate.

Politics of the Conservative base will force earmark and pork reforms. Or we won't get it. Right now, it is the most promising, because denying the Dems Pork and Earmarks are in our interests. They (The Dems) will be desperate to keep them, and now we can beat them from here and gone on it and not be shooting our own as badly.

Lott will cause alot less trouble and do alot more good in this position than any other.

I call that a net win.

"With a few very rare exceptions, I really am beginning to question the Republicans, from the top on down the line."

What's wrong with Mitch McConnell as the head of the Senate GOP?

And he was elected unanimously. Lott just squeaked out against Lamar Fn Alexander.

Lott is good on procedure. Everybody agrees. McConnell will be calling the shots.

My "plan" is to say what good does my "plan" do? I worked for the past eight years to give them a majority and they pissed it away and now they appoint a guy who is a laughstock as the Number 2 man?

Where is their loyalty to ME? I've taken it on the chin here for eight years because I have supported the GOP -- and they have paid me back by putting essentially a RACE BAITER in yet another position of power?

They have put a man in office who "bartered" our power to Tom Daschle and put us in the position of not being able to pull the trigger on filibusters.

And you want me once again to go to the well?

The answer is a resounding NO.

You are very right in what you said about this being pushback from the Senate to the White House.

I heard Major Garrett on Laura Ingraham's show this morning and he predicted this would happen for the exact reason you posted.

It seems that the GOP in the Congress not only see our POTUS as a "lame duck"...but, as kryptonite...

So.....if you think you have seen Trent and others bash Bush before...you ain't seen nothing yet.

To those who think this isn't that big a deal, you need a reality check.

Trent Lott was just about the WORST Majority Leader imaginable. We had control of the Senate, but all Lott could do was "try to work with the other side". He had NO CONCEPT of setting an agenda and working as a Majority.

His selection as Minority Whip is a clear signal that the Senate Republicans have NO FREAKIN CLUE. NONE. This is beyond pathetic.

I guess you're not a broken glass republican after all. That would make you . . . unappeasable.

Make up you damn mind, will you?

I've had enough.

Instead of focussing on the demons who want to undermine our national security we bash our own.

I beg to differ, my friend.

Exactly how much are we suppose to bend over?

I agree with you he is the whip to get votes in line and frankly I think he has probably learned his lesson and will have a larger spin then before.

Although, a gut reaction would be this is bad for the Republican party, I think it might be really good.

Lott was abandoned by Bush and named as a racist. That was wrong and conservative bloggers said so at the time.

So, Lott will hold no loyality to the White House now - which is good. He might be for the Republican party and not be inclined to have the party go down in flames to support the White House's amnesty program and whatever else left the White house goes after in the name of bi-partinsanship.

Lott's appointment is not making the White House happy and that makes me happy. What Newt said is true - the White House's interest is not nesscarily in the interest of a GOP majority in the House and Senate.

"Where is their loyalty to ME? I've taken it on the chin here for eight years because I have supported the GOP -- and they have paid me back by putting essentially a RACE BAITER in yet another position of power?"

What?

Lott made a routine kind of joke about an old man at his (essentially) retirement party.

There is no way on earth that he meant it the way the DNC media twisted it.

Race baiting?

Hardly.
