I think its because of his forth-rightness and candor on national security. You're right in that if the WOT is still not #1 by 2008, this thread will just be a historical artifact. None of us can see that far in the future. And a lot of us where sure the "six year itch" was history and look what happened. So if things do turn out different, Rudy was just a flash in the pan.

It's easy to be "forthright" and have plenty of "candor" on any issue when you aren't serving in public office (see Rudy's predecessor Ed Koch for perfect evidence of this).

One major advantage Rudy has is that by the time the 2008 election rolls around he'll have been out of public office for seven years.

But one huge disadvantage for him is that by the time the 2008 election rolls around he'll have been out of public office for seven years.

He would improve his chances with me (currently very opposed on his liberalism) if he would come out and say Bush is wrong, that Islam is not a Religion Of Peace, that we must expel all radical Islamic clerics and close all mosques that provide literature that promotes terrorism and conquest.

Have him actually do or say something tough on terrorism and then we can talk. Snubbing a Saudi prince for $10 million when the feds were throwing billions at him isn't actually impressive. Neither is embarassing Arafat. He should have arrested Arafat and had him prosecuted for terrorism.

I don't see why all you Rudy cheerleaders think he's so tough on terrorism.
