It has nothing to do with "what Democrats will do" -- and has everything to do with a Republican who is conservative on about 10%-20% of the issues (at best), who is being promoted as the best candidate for 2008 because of one or two key issues, and who has an abysmal record on one of those issues (illegal immigration) and an undistinguished record on the other ("the war on terror," whatever that is).

Just look at Schlussel's article -- as well as so many of the posts on various Rudy threads here on FR -- and note how many times you see terms like, "I believe he'll do this," "I think he's the best candidate for that," etc. The claim that "he'll nominate strict constructionists to the Supreme Court" is perhaps the most comical of all.

These people have no idea what they're talking about. They're simply projecting their own desires for a candidate on this guy without any evidence whatsoever to support these claims.

I see the debate in our party is going to be a healthy one. Whoever gets the nod is going to have to tell the base and the American people how he will make America more secure.
