The president, vice president, and some Cabinet members met with CEOs of US auto manufacturers. Video and text here.
He also met with Senator Mel Martinez, R-FL, who was recently named to be the new head of the Republican National Committee.
Stocks rallied, the Dow-Jones Industrial Average hit a record high today. The S&P ended at its highest point since November 2000. Oil and gold prices slipped. The NASDAQ ended at its highest point since February 2001.

Will pray, tm2. Thanks for the information; I had heard only a portion of the situation.

I think what you might be seeing is the effect of the tremendous dust storms of darkness that are being loosed on this president and nation ...
Ain't that the truth. Bush works hard to be president of all the people, and right now that is further to the secular, socialist left than any of us would like.
The left took over higher education in the first half of the 20th century, and the "Greatest Generation" made sure to send all us baby boomers to the high school and college that they often did not get a chance to do. Now these indoctrinated socialists are in their fifties, leading the nation and many of its institutions, and holding sway in the voting booth.
Meanwhile, the federal government grew enormous, and the left took over the major newspapers and television networks.
I sure hope your prayers are mighty powerful, Gretchen.

A look at it from someone remote and not as emotionally involved.
I seem to remember maybe during campaigning quite a bit about Mel Martinez I believe the VP or the President did quite a bit of fund raising/campaigning for him, his name I remember cropping up in speeches etc a fair few times.
From what I understand this cycle of elections the GOP/Republican Hispanic vote has been eroded whereas it has been on the increase or holding in the previous 2 or 3. As another poster said this appointment is strategy not pandering.
Also I cannot see maybe I am missing something here what the appoint of the RNC chair or co chair or whatever you want to call him has to do with the President so to criticize the appointment IMHO is not criticizing the President or in that matter to me makes sense to criticize the President for it. He may well have had some useful input into it but I would have thought that if anyone from the White House was that involved in the appointment it would have been Karl Rove to me an appointment of this kind surely was a committee decision.
Now lets focus on what this thread is a photo thread of the day in the life of the President and those around him in his administration and as such the Chair of the RNC is not relevant IMHO to his day to day activities unless he was entertaining that person at the White House.

Lieberman lost his Dem primary because he refused to back off from supporting W in the WoT. And he won the seat. He's important now. :-)

I don't know any more about his condition. My only source is our local newspaper which I get by post a day late.

I think the problem is in treating people like members of a group. The Dems always did that - the "poor"; the "Blacks"; the "Union members"; etc. The GOP used to think of people as individuals who could make it (or fail) on their own.
I think the GOP would be better off going back to the time when they thought of all people as individuals who succeeded or not because of their individual effort, and to heck with how many of their demographic group did.
Is Tiger Woods a success because there was a need to promote guys who are 1/2 Asian, 1/4 Black, 1/8 Indian and 1/8 Caucasian?
To: tommix2
I suspect that was my source as well as it was a news article on Yahoo where I read it probably the same newspaper.

Very good point but the problem as I see it both sides of the Atlantic is that people from within that group themselves seem to want associate as a collective and act as a collective rather than individuals. When this happens regardless of what from an idealogical point of view we consider correct we have to deal with them as a group.

I notice that the VP has his unmistakable trade mark the zipped hand held briefcase/wallet of papers, him seems to carry one or 2 of those around with him at all times.
