My beautiful daughter who is now the mother of my beautiful grandaughter was born at 6 monthes. My God, I think I'm going to be sick!

...to believe that at some point in the development of a fetus I believe that, too. At some point. Not at conception, though.

I'm sure you're no 'nut-job', but I'm curious: (a) would you back Romney, and (b) have you ever read the Book of Mormon while staying a Marriott? (I have and it si SUPER weird!)
That's an interesting question. I've argued with many a Mormon over religious issues, and I certainly have reservations with them in that arena (after all, I am a Southern Baptist). I've read the book of Mormon, and I've also read the JST "retranslation" of the King James Version of the Bible. Yes, there are many, many "curious" passages.
That being said, you may find it interesting that I don't really have much of a problem at all with them in the political arena. For the most part, they share the conservative values of a great many folks here. If I have a problem with Romney, it will trace to some of the more liberal positions that a Northeastern governor would no doubt embrace.

Catholic dogma does not demand that one be anti death penalty but it does demand that we protect innocent human life as best we can.Which is logically consistent because rests on underlying morality that distinguishes between in the helpless and most innocent, and the the most heinous and guilty.
Twisted and vile liberal dogma, on the other hand, supports the arbitrary and brutal slaughter of the most helpless and innocent while sparing no expense in defending the most heinous and guilty from a quick and painless judgment.

"So we're good then. No full-auto weapons, background checks and cool down periods for others?"
I already own several semi-auto-only "assault rifles" and various handguns and long guns.
Why do I need a "cool down period" to buy a new weapon when I could just use one I already have?

If a law were written making it illegal to kill alive unborn children by some means, would you balk? Yes, because you are in the final analysis a one issue leftist liberal. You spittle compromise but intend none of it. The law against partial birth slaughter must really piss your leftist mind off and the challenges of that law are fine with you but to challenge the Roe fiat ruling is anathema with your ilk. You're dishonest, but you're just an abortion embracing liberal, trolling, so we forgive you.

The greatest respect I have in the pro-life movement is for the Catholics because the policy is at least consistent. No abortions, no war, no death penalty. Catholic here as well, and I support the death penalty. The critical distinction is the taking of an innocent life v. the forfeiture of life by a person who acted in a heinous fashion.
I happen to support war as well, provided it's justified. I understand and respect pacifists, but I also believe that their position is the height of naivete.
To: DCBandita
I don't believe what you say. If you did, you wouldn't be able to justify the killing. So you define fellow humans as, well, simply not human. You are no student of history, or you would recognize what you're doing.

You're the one who made it a "man/woman" issue. Why not a fertile woman vs. everyone else issue?

I consider myself a moderate DEMOCRAT but you can interpret my comments as you will. It's your pond - I'm just hanging out with your good graces.

None. And it's an open question whether that was pursued correctly and an appropriate use of our military.
To: DCBandita
If you said that you would make it a centerpiece of your political life to impose your beliefs on me, yes. I would disqualify you. Fair enough.
I'm curious, though, as to why you chose viability as your test for when an abortion is permissible? Why not act in the most cautious way to ensure that you're not making a mistake (i.e. assume that conception creates life)?
To: PLMerite
Good point. I'm waltzing out on a limb here because I don't know whether or not anyone has proposed this or if it's even do-able, but perhaps the cool down should/could be for first-time gun owners? If a cool-down period prevents one crime of passion, I think it's worth it.

I hate to think of myself as a single issue voter, but I don't believe they're babies. I just don't. And as a woman, I don't agree with your right to impose your beliefs on me on this issue. I don't believe you have the right to force me to be pregnant - that's what it comes down to, right? I think you'd get many different answers from pro-choice people as to why they are pro-choice - for me it is a fundamental decision about dominion over my own body. Making abortions illegal takes the dominion away from me. Period. And on that I will not compromise - because it condemns me to a class less than that of a person who is not affected by it (namely men). Then I am sure you support drug use, suicide, and prostitution as constitutional rights.

Let's extend this a bit further. We are still embroiled in Clinton's unauthorized war in Bosnia, what, 10 years later ?
DCBandita, Why do you support Clinton's wag the dog war in Bosnia, but not the effort in Iraq ? Why don't you mind that we've still got troops in Bosnia as well ?
BTW I don't call it a war in Iraq,; rather it is a war on Islamofacism which happens to be targeted on Afghanistan and Iraq at the moment, with defensive actions at home and other places around the world.

no one has an indisputable answer
You don't honestly believe that there is never an answer that is fully correct or fully incorrect? You're trying to paint yourself as a moderate... but that train of thought is nothing but full-blown liberalism.

These are worse than just mere bad guys. You really need to educate yourself on radical Islam. Not for the queasy, believe me.

A headgame, huh. You can't possibly believe Queda would rather the GOP have power than the dems, especially considering that the dems don't support listening to their conversations. Surely you are not serious. You do know that Queda is aware of some leaders in your party who say that the biggest terrorist is Bush? Yet, they would cheer GOP in power too? Ok, sure. Whatever you say.
