WASHINGTON The race to be the No. 2 House Democratic leader turned nasty Tuesday, with challenger Rep. John Murtha accusing opponents of "swift-boat style attacks" that hark back to his days being investigated in the FBI's 1980 Abscam sting.
Murtha won endorsement Monday from Nancy Pelosi, who is widely expected to be the House speaker. But Murtha is opposed by some liberals who say they are not happy with the Pennsylvania lawmaker's pro-gun and anti-abortion record. Others say Pelosi took a wrong turn in backing Murtha over her current deputy Rep. Steny Hoyer because Murtha's record is marred by ethics questions of the type Pelosi pledged to clean up in Congress.

I stand corrected, sir. They are some of the most despicable people on the planet.I think it is refreshing about the elections.I did what a lot of people did.Mad,frustrated, worried that there are so many stupid people who can vote, etc. But,I got to thinking.Wait till the American people as a whole get a glimpse of things to come. The Dems may have overplayed their hand. When they start getting airtime, and the Americans see their message,[whatever that may be],there well may be a loud gasping noise reverberating throughout the land.Watch the Republicans win in 08.Providing they do not nominate dumbells.McLame, and others like him.I suspect there are a few candidates out there who may pop up to save the day.I say,let the public hear the Democrats.Everyday if possible.Let them eat cake!!

Played a lot of honkytonks in my day. Many times people would want to do a song with the band. Many were stuck on themselves.Didn't bother me how it turned out. Many bombed big time! But they wanted to do another anyway.Usually worse than the first. It is what I expect of the Democrats.I predict gaffe after gaffe. And they will.I have seen some smart people turn into complete idiots when a microphone is stuck in their face.Let the Dems talk. They will bomb big time!

Nah, if they were "swift-boating" him, they'd be trying to find out what really happened when he was a Marine intelligence officer in Vietnam. If any of his actions resulted in any dead VC or NVA, they'd have him by the short hairs.

OK Freepers,
What you hope the democRats will do?
Keep the F-Troop (retreat to victory) Marine and prove their "ethics" lasted about 2 days, or dump the guy overboard and watch him lash out at the Rats?

Jack is what the Left would call a "useful idiot".
Hey, Jack.....your party loves you, eh? Maybe you can redeem yourself by doing what a real man would do when he's committed treason and he's betrayed his fellow citizens fighting in harms way: swallow the business end of your collectible ACP.

I think Murtha was enlisted and thus never up for general. He retired as a Reserve Colonel. He was an enlisted Marine reservist, but had gotten a commission by the time he went to Vietnam, as a volunteer, were he earned two purple hearts and was awarded the Bronze Star I think reservists could go TDY for up to 180 days.

Swift-boating: Identifying actual events contrary to a long-term deception successfully cultivated to cover up misdeeds.Should be submitted to the OED.
