I am an exceedingly loyal Ford customer. If they shut down a bunch of plants here and start outsourcing all of the jobs to other countries, however, I'll have to reluctantly stop buying Fords.

The point is diesel is always cheaper EXCEPT in the USA where it's price is out of wack compared to gasoline. My untutored guess is that diesel is easier to make from crude and it definitely comes out of sour (heavy) crude easier than gasoline.

So get that crude beastly smelly product known as diesel and use modern technology to burn it in hi tech diesel engines. With less pollution, soot and smell that we all remember. It can be done. Ideal solution is coal liquefaction into diesel which also produces heating oil and jet fuel. That's three very useful products

This looks like these engines are destined for the India market and not the US market. I don't think they can sell Diesel Fiesta's in the US because of EPA rules.

If this is for the India market then why not make more profit by building localy!

Ford manufacturs diesels for the Asian market. What's so surprising about that? Look at the new 2007 Ford Ranger that's marketed for the Asian market and not in the USA.

True, I just wish that Ford would have made the announcement before the election. Michigan needs new leadership big time.

Friggin unions are killing America. Outlaw any and all unions and at least 1 scourge on communism will be erased from America.

It's not Ford per se, it's the unions. Ford has no choice if it wants to stay in business.

So Ford is going to build 1.4 diesel motors for the Indian home market, and put them in their Fiesta.

A 1.4 diesel - talk about anemic. Can you say "no market in the U.S."
Plus, the last time I saw a Fiesta in the U.S. must have been 5 years ago at best.

'A 1.4 diesel - talk about anemic. Can you say "no market in the U.S."' It really depends how expensive fuel gets in the future. The 1.4 diesel may take 14 seconds to 60 and only just exceed 100mph, but it does 49mpg in the city, 75mpg on the open road and gets a combined mpg figure of 63mpg. If every other American bought one, the US would be free of foreign oil imports! Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Makes sense, since they're to be sold in their vehicles produced in India for the Indian market.
