Best of luck to both of you. A friend recently published a book on science which we did all the illustrations for and it hasn't gone as well as hoped.

Hope you have a good marketing plan.

Hip, hip, HOORAY! I'm so glad! I'm so enormously proud of you! I can't wait to read the whole book, to hold it in my hands! Thank you for applying your gifts to the writing of this book! This particular point has been uppermost in my thinking lately, and seems especially appropriate to the Free Republic forum:

For the Framers, human reason itself was understood as a gift of God. Such men as Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Madison, Jay, Hamilton et al. believed that God is the Creator of the universe, and of man; and that God made man imago Dei, “in his image”; that is, possessing reason and free will as his natural birthright. On this understanding the Framers believed that the human person is innately endowed with certain inalienable rights — preeminently life, liberty, and the “pursuit of happiness” … — that may not be violated, abridged, nor tampered with by any other man or temporal authority with impunity. The heritage of Jerusalem and Athens — Judeo-Christian theology, together with its appropriation and synthesis of classical metaphysics — is the philosophical rock on which the Constitution was built.

The Framers and their generation were also people of faith. It took a whole lot of sheer faith to forge a new nation conceived in Liberty, one dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal because they are all equally the children of God.

And thus the idea of a dynamic rule of law of, by, and for a sovereign people under a system of equal justice for all men, not an arbitrary rule of kings exercising their authority over other (unequal) men “by divine right,” was born.

I'm not as great a thinker, and nowhere near as educated as you - I certainly have to do quite a bit of chewing on the terms and constructs you put forth! - but I delight to read that my personal understanding of our foundation is 'of the same mind' as yours, as like as that of a (very) little sister (;

Free Republic is getting enough published authors that a FR showcase of the output thereof would be both informative and interesting.

"Reason, logic, and the materialist presupposition are all that is required to unlock the secrets of nature."

But as noted, this is a faith statement, not a scientific one.

Ha ha! Fun! Reminds me of the statement by John Pilkinghorne: "The water is boiling because the gas is lit and heating up the kettle. It is also boiling because I want a cup of tea."
My paraphrase of course but you get the point. The idea that science exists in a vacuum unto itself is a metaphysical statement and should be identified as such. So often science is used to make assertions that the metaphysical does not exist or if it does it is irrelevant. My conclusion is that while science and faith are separate they are, can and should be complimentary.

Know that I am very interested in your book so keep me informed as things progress. Betty we met at Doc-on-the-Bay's party years ago.
