Ellison Probably Taking Oath of Office on the Koran
Nov 13, 2005 | Me

Excerpt...From NY Times

Arab news reports highlighted the fact that Mr. Ellison would probably take the oath of office on the Koran, something which also upset Muslim-bashers in the blogosphere. Some suggested it meant he would pledge allegiance to Islamic law rather than to upholding the Constitution.

"Some suggested it meant he would pledge allegiance to Islamic law rather than to upholding the Constitution."

I think that's a given.

Sounds like really old news. We even have people in this country who use no book of scriptures of any kind and simply "affirm" ~ as provided for in the Constitution.

It's a big country and even has Quakers and so forth in it.

Muslims are permitted to lie to infidels, according to the Koran, so it doesn't matter what he swears on.

To those voters in the 5th district it doesn't matter.

My dog would win election if he were to be on the ballot as long as he had DFL after his name in the 5th district.

If this clown fails to pledge to uphold the Constitution, the Republicans in the House should bring things to a halt on the floor of the House until he's expelled!

This would be an *outstanding* opportunity for us to demonstrate exactly what the democRAT Party *and* I Slam are all about.

How is swearing on a bible promising to uphold the Constitution? Lord knows that McCain and Bush both have sworn on it and so far I've lost freedom of speech in a election and the rights to my property!

It seems possible that I Slam forbids it's cult members from swearing "allegiance" to any document but the koran or to any nation except a muslim one.

He swore on a book which states that he's allowed to lie to non-muslims.

How nice.

How do you take an oath on a book that openly says it is completely ok to lie, cheat and steal if it serves the books teachings interests?

An oath on the Koran is as meaningful as an oath on used toilet paper.

An oath on the Koran is full of meaning and carries great weight. Muslims know this. Dhimmis pretend otherwise.

The question of Moslems living in non-Islamic countries is not a new one. The first Islamic authority to assert that it was acceptable for Moslems to live in the United States was in Egypt. Still, earlier, the Port in the Ottoman Empire had actually "recognized" the new US government before just about anyone.

Other schools and Islamic authorities down through the years have been asked to rule on the issue and it's been pretty uniformly decided that Moslems can live in the US whether we like it or not.

Most of 'em don't bother to sign the oath, which is supposed to required in addition to being orally sworn in.

I know I signed my oath, several times, enlisting in the Air Force Reserve while I was in ROTC, at my commisioning, when I joined the Air Guard somewhat later. All required swearing to "support and defend", and sign the paperwork attesting to it. But CongressCritters think they are special and don't need to sign their oath, despite the fact that oath itself is *required* by the Constitution, alhtough unlike the President's oath, the exact form is not specified therein. None the less their oath is idential to the ones I swore to, save that enlistment oath, which is not Constitutionally required, as that for officers and CongressCritters is, and has a slightly different form, requiring obedience to orders, which the officer's, and alas the CongressCritter's, do not.
