Concerning coverage in Iraq, which constitutes a cornerstone in media coverage, I find that CNN conveys an American-directed message to a large extent, and more precisely one that is in favor of President George Bush.

France believes that CNN favors President Bush?

It could be worse. There's a satellite channel called EuroNews which is sort of like TASS for the European Union. It's absolutely dreadful.

"It’s a well-known fact that professional competition in the field is extensive and there are many channels with long years of experience which we greatly respect, such as CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera."

Of course they do.

The French don't understand modern, global mass communication. This reactive attempt, which I expect to be fully subsidized by the French government, will go down in flames. CNN et al. do have their agendas but they don't come about them in the arrogant way the French will. It's a telling sign of their insecurity that the channel is called 'France 24'. I expect more attention will paid to making sure that their guests use Officially Approved French and to faux-intellectual sneering at 'Anglo-Saxons' rather than to providing interesting, quality content.
