The man arrested on Saturday for sending more than a dozen envelopes containing "fake anthrax" to anti-war celebrities, journalists, and politicians may have ties to the conservative supersite Free Republic, RAW STORY has found.
Chad Castagana, a 39 year old Californian named as the FBI's prime suspect in the case, is due in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles today, where procecutors are expected to file criminal complaint against him for sending threatening letters through the U.S. mail. Castagana has an extensive online history, often writing about science fiction and conservative politics, and many bloggers are convinced that he is also a contributor at the conservative activist Free Republic website under the name Marc Costanzo.
Earlier today, users at the liberal websites Democratic Underground and Daily Kos brought to light the similarities between Castagana's Internet footprint and Costanzo's writings at Free Republic, and RAW STORY has found a series of eyebrow-raising connections between the two men.

IF they can find a single edit he made at Wikipedia, someone should update the Wikipedia entry to note that, as a current event, the guy that sent Anthrax to the New York Times was an editor at Wikipedia.

You know, that's an interesting question. There are a couple of possible outcomes to them visiting here.
1. If they spend enough time here, we may be able to influence their thinking. Yes, some of them do think. I know it's hard to imagine, but there may be some limited signs of intelligence there. A kind of early lifeform, so to speak.
2. Would having them here add anything to the discussion? The answer to this is clearly "No", unless one is easily amused.

It amazes me how few people I talk to know that Wikipedia can be edited by anybody.
My child's 4th-grade teacher was shocked when I explained how "mikaka" became a curse word overnight.

Woodland Hills man is held in sending of threats by mail

A Woodland Hills man was arrested Saturday by the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force on suspicion of mailing more than a dozen threatening letters to politicians, celebrities and journalists, the FBI said Sunday. The letters contained what turned out to be harmless white powder.
Chad Conrad Castagana, 39, was being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles for allegedly conveying false information and sending threats by U.S. mail.
The FBI said agents observed Castagana dropping envelopes into a mailbox in Woodland Hills on Thursday. Authorities found an envelope in the mailbox containing white powder, the FBI statement said.
It is too difficult to correct negative text on the Wikipedia article without all the time in the world to defend your edits. It's probably better to counter the list of negative points with a list of equally positive points, citing links esp. links to credible sources in the MSM. Strong, incontestable sourcing will allow a contribution to stand up against the political bias on the site (WP NPOV--HA!)
Unfortunately, I think most people here (including myself) believe the site is a total loss, and therefore won't spend the necessary time to learn the site's etiquette, and therefore will rarely make a significant contribution. Having said that, my hat is off to you FReeper/Wikipedians--you guys keep the conservative-related articles from degrading into a liberal love-in. Thank you!

Yup, and it's my not-so-humble opinion this style of threading is superior to the inline-threading a lot of sites feature. Here it's a cinch to locate new replies on a thread. And the often unnecessary ability to navigate replies within a conversation is readily available at a click.
You are a very generous-hearted person. But it takes only a user name and password to post here. So, with 100,000 active users, there's gonna be some nut-cases. I've seen some really loony posts. Granted, it's not like DU, where every third poster sounds certifiable. But they're here.
If he did it, they need to lock him up and throw away the key. If he didn't, he needs to sue someone for slander.
It's clean, quite legible, logical and uncluttered. Works for me.
