I know it's way too much common sense but these media libs should learn a little bit of history. Gas prices as a rule of thumb always go way down in the latter part of the year. Demand slacks off. But history is the garlic of libs, especially media libs.
**********I wonder who Jondi Gumz voted for in 2005?*********

The term "useful idiot" comes to mind.
The best kind for media activists.

Right. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact many states have regulations dictating the change in additives for the months of November through February.

>>Gas prices as a rule of thumb always go way down in the latter part of the year.<<
Today is November 13. That is what I call the "latter part of the year. Yet prices here have gone up twice since the election less than a week ago. I started a thread on it the day after the election and the response I got nationwide was that prices had a VERY significant bump the day after the election all over the country.
Maybe it is just coincidence. Maybe not. If not, I do not know what or who exactly is behind it.

Nah! It's Rove manipulating the price to punish Americans for the election results.

Who did you vote for in 2005? There's a specific reason I'm asking this question. Look at the enclosed chart. Gas prices normally go down(and of course back up) this time of year.
The chart is from the department of energy.

LOL, I know. Rove is soooooo good that he can control not only gas prices, but also the price of chavez' oil. Everybody in the industry is idiots and these dictators are rovian tools.

HARRY REID AND NANCY PELOSI ARE SLAVES TO BIG OIL! THAT IS WHY GAS PRICES ARE RISING!
To: RobRoy
Speaking with 36 years of oil industry experience I can tell you what is behind the latest small increase in gas prices - basically "supply vs. demand" market forces.
Typically in the fall season of each year some percentage of US refineries shut down many of their units for major maintenance - this occurs on a 2 to 3 year cycle and this year a larger number than usual are down for overhauls - i.e. as a number of them actually postponed shutdowns last year following hurricane Katrina.
Thus scheduled maintenance/downtime comes at a seasonal period when most refineries are also curtailing production of gasoline and gearing up production of winter heating oil.
Likewise in recent days the price of oil has spiked a bit on the world market.
Just keep in mind the fact that the entire US refining capacity is less that 18 million barrels a day, while at the same time the US consumes some 23 million barrels a day of refined products - thus any plants going off-line directly affects retail prices.

I don't see a year by year correlation on that chart. Correlations could be inferred from it but it would be a stretch to say any month is the same as a year ago, and the year before that.
Compare any two month period between years. There is really no correlation other than what one would want to infer.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying anyone is manipulating things now. What I am saying is that this chart is not the evidence I would use to refute such a claim.

I just spoke with a person who was convinced that Republicans, in conjunction with Goldman-Sachs, were manipulating gas prices to influence the elections. He was giddy that it didn't work.
I asked him why they didn't lower the prices more, or earlier in the year. No answer.
There are some serious kooks out there.

^^^^^^^^^^I don't see a year by year correlation on that chart.^^^^^^^^^^^^
You don't see the "9/2005" entry on that chart? See it going down?
Even if you look at "9/2004" and it becomes somewhat clear that the prices *wanted* to go up before they did but were held back by various things that happen late in the year. Lower demand being one of them. As others have posted, refinery maintenance, gas blending, and etc.
^^^^^^^^^What I am saying is that this chart is not the evidence I would use to refute such a claim.^^^^^^^^^
I personally find the media's coverage to be an issue too. When the prices go down, not a peep. When they go up, it's some big conspiracy.
The chart is good because it shows the price dip in 2005 when there was no election.

I know. Very rarely does the liberal media talk about the unleaded gas futures market. It exists, but it hurts the evil conservative game that they so love to play.
