The Hillary factor
New York Daily News ^ | November 11th, 2006 | KENNETH R. BAZINET, THOMAS M. DeFRANK and MICHAEL McAULIFF

Will Hillary run? That depends on a bigger question: Can she win? In the next month, New York's junior senator will embark on the most monumental, emotional gut-check of her life - and weigh whether she thinks she can win the White House.

Then, not too far into 2007, she will make her intentions known.

"She has to wait until she's made a decision and it's a decision she's comfortable with," said Democratic consultant Hank Sheinkopf, who supports Clinton.

Getting comfortable could be hard, and some of her closest political allies hope she resists the urge. But a lot has been going her way lately.

Democrats proved last week they can win in red states, taking Senate seats, House seats and governor's mansions. Would-be Hillary slayer Mark Warner, Virginia's former governor, has dropped out of 2008 contention, and 2004 nominee John Kerry shot himself in the foot with a flubbed joke.

Poll numbers on matchups with top GOP rivals John McCain and Rudy Giuliani have improved to statistical ties or slight leads for her.

A Newsweek poll released yesterday found 53% of those surveyed said there's a chance they'd vote for her - virtually identical to McCain and Giuliani. And while many Americans see her as a polarizing figure, the key issue of whether they think she can win is trending up. A recent Gallup poll found 57% of Democrats say she could win it all.

All our worst fears about the Clintons are actually true.

"And, on top of inviting intense scrutiny, some of Hillary's closest political confidants fear Republicans are lying in wait for the most opportune moment - after she wins the nomination - to exploit the Clintons' complicated private life. Any new hint of infidelity by Bill could doom a campaign with bad memories of Monica Lewinsky and Ken Starr."

You can bet your life on that. The Swift Boat Campaign is lightweight compared to the tidal wave that would hit the Arkansas Grifters in 2008.

i'm still wondering when the 'press' will look closer at JFK Jr's death... after all, it was his death that cleared the way for her.

How so? JFK Jr, his unpopular wife Carolyn, and her sister died more than a year before the election. It was Giuliani's cancer and messy divorce that cleared the way for her. She might have beaten Giuliani even if he had run. He didn't become a 'hero' until later.

JFK Jr had made mention about a month before his death that he was thinking of running for the senate seat. noone would have stood a chance against his run. you think the dems like the clintons? they are simply orgasmic over the kennedys.

if you'd like the full force, double wrap tin-foil alert story.. just ask. ;)

"John Kerry shot himself in the foot with a flubbed joke"

Joke?? Why does the press continue to call dissing the military a joke? He was playing to the Moveon.org crowd.

Hillary Clinton and the Democrats share these sentiments.

Recent poll in New Hampshire concluded that over 50% of the women who live there do NOT like Hillary Clinton. They don't trust her.

The President is Commander and Chief of the military. I doubt that Hillary could lead the military...or the nation for that matter.

Although anyone who is familiar with the history of the Arkansas Grifters finds the JFK story easy to believe, there really isn't any evidence.

I think it is better to stick to proven facts when talking about the Clintons. There certainly are enough of those around to sink a battleship :+}.

They just arranged a meet up with Vince Foster.

This would be a good time to check out Alamo-Girl's Arkancide List.

well... when you do a 'burial at sea' within days of 'recovering' the bodies... makes finding proof a bit tricky.

as for the proven facts that may exist... pardon me if i don't hold my breath for the republicans to push the advantage. and if you think the MSM will do anything to push the story, you obviously weren't watching the lastest elections.

of course, if this story hits a cord in NY... well...

She won't run for POTUS. She said she'd never do that.

She's going to be "loyal to her New York constituents and fill out her entire term."

When she was running for NY senate seat, her limo driver hit a security guard. No apologies. At another event, her people spit on NY cops. She's a ruthless pig.

If she fell down dead, I'd say a silent prayer of thanks.

(The Bitch was my Senator for a year... that's when I left New York.)

It's not Bill, it's her crooked money dealings that caused her to have to testify that will do her in. She ain't married to the President, now.

You are right, the hildabeast will not run. She knows that she cannot win, and would never put herself in a position to be on the loosing end of an election!

Even if this is true, I find it very unlikely that he would actually have run, and still far less likely that HRC had him 'whacked.' He was perfectly capable of killing himself through pilot error. Even if it were true that the Clintons did everything they've ever been accused of, killing someone as harmless and beloved as JFK Jr wouldn't make sense.

Hillary's presidential aspirations were the reason Bill was a do-nothing president.

He was merely keeping the chair in the Oval Office warm for Hillary. He was a human "seat occupied" sign for his wife, who wanted to be the first female president.

That doesn't make any sense. In the 1990s, it was evident that if Mrs. Clinton was going to run for President, it couldn't happen before 2008. Was Clinton accomplishing nothing to 'keep the seat warm' for Gore? No, Clinton actively disliked Gore and they never did each other any favors. Oh wait, there was a Republican congress that spent two years impeaching him. Maybe that had something to do with it.

I have no doubt that the decision to shut up libs (Pelosi) and triangulate on the elections was Hillary putting her creepy feelers out as to whether or not that Clintonian strategy will still work.

No doubt she feels emboldened by their tiny 6 year mid-term win. Let her.

Republicans should take note and come to the realization that a move to the center with Rudy or McCain will allow the Clintons to move to the right of us on the important national issues.

Two issues she can use against us are Border Security and the Bloated Budget. Bush doesn't look like he plans on doing anything to stop that perception so we had better do so in the primaries!
