Democrats to Press Bush to Reduce Troops in Iraq
New York Times ^ | November 12, 2006 | MARK MAZZETTI

Posted on 11/12/2006 6:54:19 PM PST by Eric Blair 2084

Leading Senate Democrats vowed today to use their new majority in Congress to press for troop reductions in Iraq within a matter of months, stepping up pressure on the administration just as President Bush is to be interviewed by a bipartisan panel examining future strategy for the war.

The Democrats — the incoming majority leader, Senator Harry Reid; the incoming Armed Services Committee chairman, Senator Carl Levin; and the incoming Foreign Relations Committee chairman, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. — said a phased redeployment of troops would be their top priority when the new Congress convenes in January, even before investigating the conduct of the war.

“We need to begin a phased redeployment of forces from Iraq in four to six months,” Senator Levin, of Michigan, said on the ABC News program “This Week.” Later, in a telephone interview, he added, “The point of this is to signal to the Iraqis that the open-ended commitment is over and that they are going to have to solve their own problems.”

Now that the Dims have won, let's make Osama bin Laden's wet dream come true.

Let Nancy Pelosi introduce the "Surrender to Terrorist Act" in the House. She can meet Osama at Appomatix (I'm sure that spelling is wrong) Courthouse and sign the surrender agreement in front of a bunch of gleaming French reporters with cameras.

We can surrender and cut and run, like the French did in WWII. At least Poland put up a fight!!!

Along with the better office space and improved parking on the hill, sadly comes that dreadful word: 'responsibility.'

The Democrats will rue this victory like no other. Now all this 'we could do it differently' is going to look an awful lot like 'the same ol' stuff' because they can't back up all the things they have demanded without causing disaster.

So I think they have blundered badly. They blundered when they picked Dean. They blundered when they attacked Lieberman. They blundered when they eeked out this win. Now its time to put up or shut up and they are wringing their hands because the have never had a plan, and have never been consistent even in their rhetoric.

The Democrats are toast and you'd think some of them have got to know it.

Why don't the Dimwits ask the soldiers whether they want their numbers reduced. What a bunch of pukes.

Ahhh the drum beat of CUT & RUN.

Who woulda thunk it a few weeks ago.

The Dems sure are some sick POSs

12 million Iraqi voters will now be abandoned, and so goes the hope to prevent the evolution of an Islamofascist Axis of nations with a nuclear Iran at the center.

MAN THE DEMS SURE DO SUCK!

First of all, in all fairness to the Communist left, we did it to them too in 1994. Petty vindictiveness. It's bipartisan.

To paraphrase a Chinese proverb:

"Be careful who you piss on when you are on the way up; they're the same people you will see on the way down."

Like in 2 years, when Americans realize that smart Socialists like Marx and Engels were wrong. Why would they believe in 2008 that stupid Socialists like Rangel and Pelosi are right????????????????

To paraphrase a credit card commercial...

Rangel calling the Vice President a son of bitch...1,123,000 votes.

Rangel's Ways and Means committee telling "rich" folks who make more than $26,000 per year to stick em up and give me your money...2,454,090 votes.

Rangel blaming Harold Ford's loss on racism while disavowing any racial motivation for Michael Steele's loss...1,541,900 votes.

Pelosi surrendering to Osama bin Laden and trial lawyers suing on behalf of Abu Moussab Al Zarquawi's Estate...232,980,654 votes.

Rangel crying like a 4 year old who's sister took his toy over Cheney's office in the House building...priceless.

There are some votes money can't buy, for everything else, there's dopey liberals.

It's better than 450 commercials during the Super Bowl.

We've been losing an average of between two and three troops per day. If we pull half our troops out, can anyone promise the casualty rate will drop? No, we can't. It's all the drawbacks of surrender without any benefit.

Via the Corner at National Review online.

Then there is this long (20+ minutes) interview, in which PM Maliki talks to the BBC's John Simpson. The encouraging thing here is how convincingly Maliki talks about imposing "the authority of the state," and he shows a pretty nuanced view of the danger the militias pose outside state control, and the role they can play if properly regulated. He also makes a point I had never thought of, which is that the United States and the Coalition have an obligation under Security Council resolutions to maintain security in Iraq until Iraqi security forces can take over.

I know what you are saying.

Rush had a good point. There are 122 homicides a month in Kalifornia. Maybe you're safer in Iraq than LA. One life lost is one too many to the liberal peaceniks. Forget the fact that we lost 3,200 troops in the first hour of the D-day invasion against the Nazi's. Liberals love sauerkraut.

Any time brave men and women who defend our country die in the name of freedom, it hurts. It hurts all of us and especially their families. Freedom is not Free. You have to fight for it.

If I had chosen to join the military (before I was too old at the age of 38 and they wouldn't take me because I was old and my back hurt) and died for my country....and then my Mommy Ms. Sheehan went on a national speaking tour disgracing and embarassing my sacrifice, I would come back as a poltergeist and say "Hey, Mom, cut it out already. I'm trying to keep you and your neighbors from getting blown up by a dirty nuke. Don't disgrace yourself."

I vote for pulling the troops out of Germany and Bosnia first. Restage them in Poland if it is necessary that we be in Europe at all anymore.

Just making myself feel better. I don't know if this is at all feasible.
