"Ballot-bag problems may slow counting of 8th District votes"Not clear yet whether any of the ballots are actually ineligible, and it's unlikely there could be nearly enough ballots to reverse Reichert's lead. But Darcy Burner is encouraged
King County Elections staff said about 100 bags -- containing up to 20,000 absentee ballots that had been dropped off at polling sites on Election Day -- remain uncounted because of an array of problems caused by the bags' being overstuffed.
Jim Buck, King County's interim elections director, acknowledged that the problems -- including broken zippers and unclosed bag seals -- could potentially have allowed ballots to be cast after voting ended.
"If you were going to have a Democrat win this district ... this would be the way it would play out," she said. What would Democrats do without ballots of questionable provenance?
It used to be that the cheaters were accused of "stuffing the ballot boxes". Now they freely admit to overstuffing the ballot bags! :(
Yeah, there was a lot of "loose ends" that Vance left behind that has been handled with discretion and professionalism to the benefit of the party.
Agreed on all counts. Washington elections have become an international laughingstock, and I see that this year they are eagerly trying to live up to their 'record'.
I'm very sorry to hear that; you have my sincere sympathies.
I'm tending to also lose hope sometimes and am beginning to think that you may be right.
However, one ray of sunshine is that I've been hearing from a number of pundits that the main cause for this last bloodbath was that many Conservatives simply didn't vote, and that the actual victory margins in many races really weren't that large, and so there is no national "liberal mandate" by any means. I sincerely hope that they are right.
Hopefully in 2008 the Conservatives will come out to vote and we can reverse things and set America on a proper track.
This is why I will never vote absentee ballot.
Is your county mail in votes only?
Yep. First time this election. HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT.
my goodness, I thought only Oregonians had gone that way
We seem to always try and learn from the best up here.
(/Monumental sarcasm)
That means the King County "election theft/voter fraud is us" council will come up with 3001 for Burner. They are pros at this.
I'm guessing that since the magical appearance of ONE HUNDRED SUSPECT BAGS of ballots, the interest level in 'counting' (cough, cough) the ballots has simultaneously increased.
I'm guessing that these ballot bags are much like the zippered cash bags that I have dealt with, in that they are incredibly heavy-duty and have the most monstrous, bulletproof locking zippers that you've ever seen. They are the sort of thing that you can drive a REALLY big truck over with nary a whimper, and you could only dent them with a sledgehammer. For ONE HUNDRED of them to 'break' is of course ludicrous, and an indication of how utterly and shamelessly corrupt they are.
"sigh"
Since the default politicians' perspective is that if you want something done properly, have the Government do it (as evidenced recently by the turning over of airline security to the Government and their Union thugs) I don't see any end in sight.
I can't think of a single instance in which a Government-run entity that was falling apart has been analyzed by politicians and then turned over to private industry to be fixed.
"sigh"
Thanks very much for the informative background....I suspected as much, having listened to Ken Hamblin moan about Denver and Boulder many times on his radio show.
It sounds much like King County, without the benefit of a strong Catholic vote. At every opportunity I cast my vote against "Baghdad Jim" McDermott, and every time he's re-anointed with 80 percent of the vote. I'm terribly embarrassed of Seattle, and I was born here.
((((sad))))
That's good to hear, thank you. Hopefully that will be a continuing trend.
I will never do it willingly either, and in my (ultraliberal) North Seattle precinct I can still go to a polling location, fill out a ballot and feed it into a big black machine by myself. But I am not so sure that this method is terribly safe either. I'm assuming that the big machine is connected to a central server of some kind, which can be hacked as can anything that's plugged into a telephone line. When you have a State that's so utterly infested with Democrats, I don't know if there is a true, universal solution. It's sort of like demanding that all the inmates in a prison become nice people....it's not gonna happen.
Good thing you don't live in my county in Washington State. It is all absentee. Of course, as you say, you then wouldn't vote. :)
This is getting old and sooo... predictable. Enough already!
Yes, the 'news' crews won't even need to unpack the cameras this time....they can just roll the stock "counting ballots in Washington State" footage that they took last time....it will work just fine.
