Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), "in line to become Speaker in January, is throwing her support to Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) in the race for Majority Leader, a move that will be an early test of her influence and will weigh heavily on Murtha's contest with Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) for the post," Roll Call reports.
"Pelosi, in a letter distributed Sunday to newly elected House Democrats, wrote that Murtha's outspoken opposition to the war in Iraq helped change the electoral campaign for the House this fall."
The Hill: "Her endorsement has the potential to turn the race, especially if she chooses to campaign on Murthas behalf. Pelosis decision to back Murtha is the most significant move she has made since Democrats scored a historic victory on Election Day."
ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Huh?
oh... and I SECOND THAT EMOTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blind leading the blind.
Blind leading the blind.
But the underlying point I want to get at is that in terms of motivation this almost certainly signifies nothing more than that: Pelosi's maneuvering to consolidate her control over the House Democrats. It may very well have other consequences but that's a separate issue, and one certainly worthy of contemplation as well.
Nice. Is there a reason for that insult?
There's another factoid in this contest that hasn't been discussed. While personally, Pelosi detests Hoyer, she wasn't going to intervene initially..but she's gotten tremendous pressure to oust Hoyer from the Black Caucus, all of whose members detest Hoyer because he hand picked Cardin to oppose Mfume for the MD senator spot. The CBC supported Pelosi 100% when she ran for leader two years ago...this is their pound of flesh..

Murtha "reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco." Laurence Pelosi, nephew of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, at the time was an executive of the company which owned the rights to the land.
The same article also reported how Mr. Murtha has been behind millions of dollars worth of earmarks in defense appropriations bills that went to companies owned by the children of fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, Rep. Paul Kanjorski.
Meanwhile, the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan campaign-finance watchdog group, lists Mr. Murtha as the top recipient of defense industry dollars in the current 2006 election cycle.
FYI: Kanjorski still holds his seat in the House.
So does Pelosi, with all of her scandalous affairs.
As does Reid with his kids holding power positions to every form of business in the state.
Of course the ever popular king of pork, al-murthawi himself, continues to sit in his air-conditioned office on Capitol Hill.
Robert Gleason, Jr still holds the position of GOP chairman of Pennsylvania, so I'm sure the corruption in PA will go unabated.
But hey, who cares ..... the republicans got rid of some obscure critter that wrote a lude e-mail to an adult effectively showing the electorate they are tough on criminals.
Ooooops, with the exception of actually protecting one that mysteriously had 90K in his freezer and illegally used the US Military as his own personal chauffeurs during a national disaster.
Yep! It also puts a bullseye on every man and woman serving in the US Military.
I wasn't referring to you, but to Murtha and the Democrats. I should have addressed my bit to All. My apologies for the confusion.
Murtha has given me the yips. I think I need a break from this place before I start foaming at the mouth! Sorry again for snapping and being a jerk.
