Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele says he IS interested in taking over the reigns of the Republican National Committee IF an offer comes his way. Steele, who lost his bid for a U.S. Senate Seat to Maryland Third District Congressman Ben Cardin last Tuesday, tells C-SPAN that he hasn't had any conversations with the White House about the job. He says he'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks.
i think steele is presidential material. He needs to promoted to a much higher position than he is now, as a springboard to nomination
I thought Steele ran as a moderate?
Where have you been?
If they can't get Gingrich he'd be a terrific choice....
Here in Virginia. I don't know a lot about him. I do know is that the head of the party should at least be willing to seen supporting the President of US who happens to be of the same party.
I think he would be good for the RNC. He took 44.4% in Maryland in his bid for senate this year.
I also didnt like it when Steele tried to move himself away from George Bush, but looking back it was the right thing to do. Those who stuck with Bush are now on the Outside looking in. Not that Steele isnt doing the same, but he made the right move IMO. He just couldnt beat the Democrat machine in Maryland.
Maryland Democrats would vote for a fence post as long as it leaned to the left.
He is one of the strong conservatives of the party and IMO, a better choice than Newt.
What Cardin learned on Tuesday that he can diss blacks and still get their votes.
He NEVER had the chance to win in Maryland, let's be honest.
There is a big enough dim plurality in Baltimore City, Montgomery Co, and Prince George's county to offset the rest of the entire state. These three counties/cities could run Maryland.
If it werent that he is a Republican he could be the Golden boy of the Media they are making of Barrack Obama the Muslim Senator. The media is biased to the point that they are ridiculous.
Despite winning endorsements of the RAT controlled Prince George County Board, the county vote for Cardin, 76-23.
That would make sense. It's an ideological position, and Newt's a natural intellectual. He's also very good with the media. He can't be pushed around.
Steele would do a great job.
This is a dumb idea. Nothing qualifies him for the post. It smacks of some kind of politically correct diversity plan, along the lines of 'Condi for President!'.
If Republicans don't get their head out, they'll be waiting till long after 2008 to reclaim the Congress and the Presidency. They had their 'Perfect Storm' chance and blew it. Starting with replacing Newt Gingrich with the non-controversial, nice guy, who was a highschool wrestling coach, Dennis (Denny) Hastert.
They need to get real for everybodies sake,
Give the job to Tom DeLay.
If he is presidential calibre, then he needs to build up his rolodex, and runniing all over the country meeting Republicans is a way to do that.
I agree that the media is making Barrack Obama the poster boy for 2008 with absolutely no credentials exceppt a big "D" behind his name and being black and all.
But, is Barrack a Muslim? I thought he claims to be a Christian. Since I admit to not knowing a lot about him, I could be wrong.
Yay!!! Best news I've heard all day.
No.
