If we rigidly applied truth-in-advertising laws to the national media in their coverage of the 2006 campaign, we would have first declared that the stuff between the commercials wasn't "news" as much as a boatload of free infomercial advertising for the Democrats. The news reports should have led with the sentence, "I'm Nancy Pelosi, and I approved this newscast."
Republicans made a lot of mistakes and caused themselves a pile of problems. Their house is a mess -- it's time to tear down and start over. But I will say this unequivocally: In 25 years of looking at the national media, I have never seen a more one-sided, distorted, vicious presentation of news -- and non-news -- by the national media. They ought to be collectively ashamed. They have made a mockery out of the term "objective journalism" and a laughingstock of themselves at the idea that they should be considered objective journalists.

I would have been happy, and America would have been the grateful beneficiary, had the anchors given us an educational exploration of the issues of the day, and the parties' and candidates' stances, instead of the silly dramatics. Did the Democrats have a program beyond their daily carpet-bombing of President Bush? What would happen to -- name the issue -- were they elected?
Not on your life. This was a campaign that presented Republicans as the tired, failed, corrupted party that had to go, while viewing Democrats through a rose-colored lens as an intoxicating bouquet of historic firsts for diversity: the first female speaker of the House, the first Muslim American in the House, the first black senator in the South since Reconstruction.

I know, unbelievable.
"still has great power." is an understatement. I think it is more powerful than the government!!! I think we have a long way to go.

It's interesting how Stretch Pelosi and Commie Conyers started backpedaling on their calls for 'impeachment hearings' - -

These Marxist maggots must appeal to their moron kook fringe by touting this kind of crap. They know they would lose if this element of their voting base developed a brain beyond the ape-like lever-pullers they are. We will see every attempt to "get even" for holding Clinton accountable for only PART of this crimes.
I wish Brent would do a piece on the outright lying the media is spewing forth regarding the dead-soul issue they favor of cannibalizing embryo-aged humans for their body parts (stem cells). The media bias for the cannibalism is so blatant as to be criminal in intent! It is ushering in cloning also, as a codicil to the evil of cannibalism. The media purposely lies and mischaracterizes the science so as to further dumb down the alreadsy ignorant voters. Look at the results in Missouri and Kansas when the media purposely lies and misrepresents to fit their beloved democrat's agenda!
Doc Ellis closed the matter in San Diego, pitching a no hitter ....... on LSD.

True, but I'm not sunk in despair about it. The fact is that an alternative media now exists, and it is slowly growing in influence.
The 2006 election is not the end, just a setback. If conservatives learn the right lessons from it, they can turn those lessons into future electoral victories.
To paraphrase perhaps my least favorite president, "I feel your rage."
The increasingly slanted media coverage of politics and the gullibility of the electorate is a sad state of affairs indeed.
However, I've reserved most of my anger for the GOP itself.
They lost this election, and in doing so have imperiled my country.
And what pi**es me off is that it didn't have to be that way.
They knew and know the MSM is not on their side, yet they try to cozy up to them.
The GOP is well aware that no matter what they do, it'll be painted in the press as "mean", "draconian", even "bigoted." Yet they reply with mealy-mouthed responses like "No we're not...really."
And worst of all, they know the Democrats are liars, cheats and Stalinists, yet the GOP went out of its way for the last 10 years to "play nice."
I'd better stop.
I'm low on blood pressure pills.
I'm sorry, but the reason the MSM got traction this election is because the pubbies gave it to them. The MSM tried this crap last election - Bush lied, Plamegate, resurrecting TANG, etc. - but since those were lies, we could counter them effectively through the alternate media. However, this time around, the corruption charges stuck. It doesn't matter that they also stuck to a fair number of Dems - it was pretty hard to pretend that many of the allegations against the pubbies were not based in fact.
So the lesson is to the GOP, don't give the MSM the hammer to hit you with. Go back to core values, don't seek power for power's sake, and keep your house clean.
Here's the rest of the McCain disasters:

ANYBODY WANT TO VOTE FOR THIS IDIOT ..?? It won't be me.
Both Nixon and Reagan had hostile media coverage and Bush 41 in 88 also had hostile press while their opponents got fawning press coverage and still trounced their opponents and all this was while the DBM had a monoploy. the repubs lost on their own doing. See you all in 3 weeks..
He does a great job of articulating what most of us feel. Lynn Cheney was right to slap down Wolf Blitzer about CNN's "America Broken" series.
It's a combination of a biased press and an incredibly stupid, lazy electorate.
Actually Bush said in 2000 that he would veto McCain's bill. I guess he felt he "owed" it to McCain to sign it. Bad move. I was really annoyed with GWB over that. Of course if McCain, Feingold and the rest of them want real reform, why don't they now propose outlawing these so called 527s? Like that would ever happen.
Another thing that would never happen, but that I would give anything to see, is for some brash conservatives in Congress to propose that the "news" media be monitored somehow. Just imagine the outcry that would follow. I'd love to hear it. :) Propose that if the media are not fair and balanced during election campaigns that they be fined, or required to issue alternative viewpoints. Obviously this is unworkable, and probably unconstitutional. But then, when do liberals care about the constitition?
Such a move by the right though would rile up the biased news industry, and maybe excite conservative voters who sat out this election.

No, sir. Let's reiterate: CNN and their cronies flooded the airwaves with stories of Diebolds voting for Republicans when demoncrats were selected. You remember?
The dims swept into power with a total of 5,038-40 votes.
What if those improper votes were for dims when Republicans were actually selected? Not one single story about the Diebolds since the elections, right?
The Pubs' were too busy kissing up to the middle and wouldn't feed the right any red meat that they were willing to fight for.
I could go on and on about the conservative issues they were afraid to even mention, but you know what I'm talking about.
We don't really even have any true conservatives in the Republican party anymore. Why? Because the MSM would tar and feather them and run them out on a rail. I'd much rather see them fight for what is right for America, instead of kissing the collective asses of the moderates.
We can see how it cost them this election.
