An activist who successfully went over officials' heads to get senior citizens' property taxes frozen in Arlington and Tarrant County says he'll now turn his sights on illegal immigration.
Dave McElwee said he will push for city ordinances that will prohibit employers and landlords from accommodating illegal immigrants with jobs and places to live.
And he wants local law enforcement officials to cooperate with the federal government in a program that would authorize them to enforce immigration laws.
"We're going to force these local officials one way or the other," McElwee pledged. "We're talking about every city in the county if we can do it."
City council members fear that McElwee's efforts could turn their meetings into battlegrounds over one of the country's most contentious issues. Hispanic groups said they would fight McElwee's efforts at council meetings and in the courts if necessary.
McElwee's promise to act means a lot because he has a track record as a maverick who gets things done.

Hope your town has better luck with this type of law than Hazleton, PA did. A judge overturned a similar law passed by the town council.
I've already noticed businesses wising up. A lot of spanish language signs are disappearing all over town, and now when you hear a message, they don't ask you to press a button for english.
People are angry and getting angrier.
Democrats in control of House and Senate with a smiling ally in
The White House...
it's all over but the crying.
Amnesty is gonna' be here in a year.
(and yes, I pray I'm gonna' have to eat crow on that!)
Good luck there on the Tarrant county side of the DFW metroplex, engrpat. If someone tried to do this on the Dallas County side, where all the contested elections for judges fell into democrat hands, the results will be the same as in what happened in Randita's post #2: A (democrat) judge will merely overturn it.
Aiding and abetting will now be considered a crime? /s
Negative. After Tuesday immigration has ceased to be a problem and we will begin being flooded with stories of noble people coming to America to pursue the America dream for their cute little babies.
The housing bubble which was going to burst at any minute just went away instantly after the elections were decided by those 5.040 votes on questionable electronic machines.
Suddenly, we all love the Dixie Chicks!!
Amnesty A fresh batch of Democrat voters is gonna' be here in a year.

This is a very long read but well worth it. If this doesn't send shivers up ones spine, nothing will.
One city in Maryland has ceased operating a day labor site.
Labors cease in Gaithersburg
November 8, 2006
Good news for Gaithersburg, Maryland: There will be no day-laborer center to spend tax dollars on illegal aliens. After 31 tries, the City Council is giving up. As council member Henry F. Marraffa Jr. put it: "It's time for us to listen to our citizens, and our citizens don't want this in their neighborhoods."
snip
As it says: "Federal law prohibits the hiring of an undocumented worker and makes it unlawful to 'encourage or induce an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such coming to, entry, or residence is or will be in violation of law.' "

Gaithersburg has done right by its residents. Other councils (and politicians) should take note.

One way would be to convince them it is their responsibility to address community problems. Failing that, the other way would be to vote them out of office.
This should be interesting as the guy spearheading this is know as a real junkyard dog when fighting for what he wants. I would hope to see more communities take up the fight, h@ll I would love to see the republican party take up the fight.
bump for later
