Democrats to 'revisit' law creating border fence By Shaun Waterman UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL November 11, 2006 Democrats will look again at the legislation mandating 698 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border and might seek to scrap the plan altogether when they take control of Congress next year. Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Democrat, told reporters this week that he expected to "revisit" the issue when he becomes chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in the 110th Congress. Mr. Thompson said the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) new border enforcement program, known as the Secure Border Initiative or SBI Net -- which includes monitors, cameras and other integrated surveillance systems -- is a viable alternative to fencing. "We might do away with it, or look at [integrating it into] SBI Net," he said. "A virtual fence rather than a real one."

Thank you. It took 28 posts for someone to point out the obvious. I'm sure Bush will veto this .LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
I hope not. It's a stupid thing. It will never happen and it promotes the barefoot hillbilly stereo type.
The dems don't have a veto-proof majority, not that we have much precedent that Bush will use it. But there's always hope.
Of course not, these new dems are going to tow the pelosi line.
It is up to us in the new media to show these new dems hypocrisy.
You have the last word!
They were listening to Michael Weiner...
Someone should ask Harry Reid if it is a good idea to have a Dem President in 2008 since the Dems now control Congress. No checks and balances and one party control.
What, you don't think for a minute he wouldn't change is opinion on that statement of his? /sarc
Are you coming to this?

Here's the invite:
Freepers and Friends of Freepers, Please come to a get together for a couple of hours with plenty of time left over to get home and tucked in bed. Mondays suck, so let's do it Monday (THIS MONDAY) Nov 13th.
Monday 6pm till Fox & Hound Smokehouse & Tvrn 12802 Gulf Fwy (Just inside BWY8 on the southbound side of I-45. The door faces Fuqua) Houston, TX
I hope the Reps hold the Dems to pay-go, i.e., no new spending without reductions elsewhere to cover it. Let's see how the Dems fund their new social programs.
Come, Lord Jesus.
It appears to be a stupid thing to those that do not live on the border and can't allow the kids to play outside without an armed adult guard....
There is no one to protect Texas soil and sovereignty but those directly affected....Eventually all Texans will be directly affected...along with those in other states that will look back and wish they had acted, when action would have worked....
If the terrorists are smart, they will hold off on any major attacks on the US. They can achieve their objectives with a Dem congress and presidency. Iraq will drop into their laps like ripe fruit falling off the vine.
Thanks, Dobbs? How 'bout we thank GW & the soon to be previous congress.
They had a majority AND DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!
"This election has altered this nation so much it is scary to even think about it..."
Yep, here's what I see happening early on:
1)Impeachment/investigative proceedings of Rumsfeld/Bush (to chill any opposition).
2) Arrest of pastors/preachers/priests for "hate speech".
3) Gun restrictions/confiscations
That puts them squarely and comfortably in power, then the real oppression begins.
Many of you seem to be betting on "blue dog" Dems, ain't gonna happen, just like all political Dems, they hide what they really are about, they will gladly follow party rules because they enjoy power, very simple.
Now, figure out how to combat this effectively. I see no strong conservative leaders yet, the rest of the Repubs are still running into hiding and whimpering, meanwhile our military has been betrayed and sold down the river and they are my NUMBER ONE CONCERN, not scumbag congresscritters.
Yes. All of those people who are praising the election of the Democrats as some sort of great way for us to win in 2008 seem to be forgetting just how bad it was the last time the Democrats ran the House of Representatives.
If we hadn't managed to get a sunset provision, the dead-stupid Assault Weapons Bill would still be the law of the land. We then squandered our chances of revoking any federal gun control when we had all three branches of government and accomplished nothing.
This time around, in addition to more gun control, we are going to see a general amnesty for illegal aliens and no fence built.
Look at the bright side. Now we have a party in power that will get something done and quickly! /s
You think I'd post something untrue? STFU!
