Newt Gingrich, the Once and Future "Architect"?
Friday, November 10, 2006 | Momaw Nadon

IMHO, Newt Gingrich won't be elected President, but he is far and away the best choice for the post of top Republican strategist. Whether this is in the RNC or somewhere else, I don't know.

He needs to call the shots in 2008 while maintaining a low public profile. He can be the true "architect" of conservative victory once more. He led us to victory in 1994. He can do so again in 2008.

Gingrich should be to Romney what Rove is to Bush.

I agree Newt is Brilliant, and very persuasive.
He isn't just conservative, he is full of good new ideas on governing. And has a good grounding in history, philosophy..

I'll leave the discussion about baggage and electability to others, but in an ideal world he would be my top candidate.

If his baggage proves too great, I would consider Romney. I do not know much, but I haven't found the negative arguments very persuasive yet.

I admire Giulani's tough talk on the War on Terror, but I am amazed at how strong his support is among conservatives, when he really is a liberal on so many issues. He is so liberal that I'd have to say he is an unacceptable candidate for the Republican party. Perhaps he would be a good candidate for the Democrat party.

McCain is totally unacceptable, I don't trust him at all.

Newt has the blueprint to bring the party back to it's Reagan roots. I hope he runs just to get intelligent solutions into the debate.

You are right on the mark.

Why the heck do we want to let the msm determine who can and cannot run for the Republican nomination?

We are supposed to put up a candidate that the left will vote for???

Worried about the MSN and the J. Leno jokes?

The MSN and the late night sophisticates were ruthless with Reagan.

Look at what they said about him even as he was on his death bed.

It did not stop him because he had the right stuff.

Newt has got the right stuff. He has already shown that he has.

I can't understand one thing. Newt is going to take a candidate who is totally unacceptable to everyone except the conservative wing of the Republican Party and make that man President.

But he can't do that for himself?

I do not see the logic in that.

Don't forget that Romney was governor of the most liberal state in the country. He is a lot more conservative than his record shows. There is no way a George Bush conservative would ever get elected in Taxachusetts.

Gingrich can't win the general election. Period.

You wrote, "...NOT A FREAKIN' LIBERAL."

True, but he isn't electable, either. The man's downright Watergate-era Nixonian when it comes to voter appeal: thinner skin than McCain when criticized, shrill in debate, bad on camera, and peevish at slights, real and imagined. When then-President Clinton pointedly excluded Gingrich from the roster of Air Force One on a foreign trip, Gingrich pouted like a child--and worse, caught on camera doing it. Imagine him on the presidential campaign trail: he's just full of MSM magical moments waiting to happen.

Look, I doubt even President Bush meets the most stringent conservative litmus test--especially given his stance on immigration--but I, for one, prefer a Republican in the White House to a doomed-to-fail Gingrich candidacy. It would be something akin to a Perot-like vanity campaign, with a similar result.

The country needs Newt to be President. I can forgive the past easily - I'm a Christian!

Voting for someone that can get elected to anything in MA is not high on my to-do list.

Romney can.

Romney the candidate with Gingrich as his strategist seems to be a good combination to me.
