How serious is the "thumpin'" the Republicans took on Tuesday? Losing one house is significant but hardly historic. Losing both houses, however, is defeat of a different order of magnitude, the equivalent in a parliamentary system of a vote of no confidence. On Tuesday, Democrats took control of the House and the Senate. As of this writing, they won 29 House seats (with a handful still in the balance), slightly below the post-1930 average for the six-year itch in a two-term presidency. They took the Senate by the thinnest of margins - a one-vote majority, delivered to them by a margin of 7,188 votes in Virginia and 2,847 in Montana.

I'm calling my new Democrat Senator and demanding the end of the Homeland Security because it infringes on my rights.
I also want the stop the the SSP because Bush implemented it.
And I'm going to write the newspapers. Hey, these are all progressive points here....
"I also want the stop the the SSP because Bush implemented it."
I'm so made I'm stuttering today.
After all, isn't it about time we stopped funding missile defense?
Yup. And I think we need to pull all our bases in Europe and Asia because it is militaristic and a fraud of the Empire.
So glad you get my drift!
Charles Krauthammer's excellent article has greatly improved my mood today.
As it should. The country is moving right.
I liked the article too. Charles has basically called Black Tuesday what it was, IMO, a protest vote.
The silver lining is that Pelosi and crew (and some Dems I know personally), are floating on air and thinking they now have a mandate! I HOPE THEY ACT LIKE THEY HAVE A MANDATE!!!
Then Republicans will take over on downs in '08, and move the ball back across mid-field.
By voting for the minimum wage? Or reversing the abortion ban in South Dakota? Or legalizing human cloning in Missouri?
All of those in RED STATES.
Hey...don't interrupt my new rat Congress's plans for gerrymandering! You know they must undo the EVIL GOP maneuvers which disenfranchised many voters.
Time to get on the job and disenfranchise the rest.
Didn't the Breck girl say that the dim party, once back in power, would have Krauthammer up and out of his wheelchair?
We still have a lot of work to do.
I hope conservatives run for a touchdown!
Pesky facts.
How nice of pro-life voters to stay home.
The Democrats won merely by having a theme from which to rally around.
I suspect a lot of the "new direction" voters are already beginning to have regrets. The moonbats are so rabid in their lust for revenge that they've gone blind and will get run over by a freight train they'll never see coming.
I figured there would be a fight in Missouri, I was absolutely dumbfounded at the numbers in South Dakota.
Because of ten thousand votes the Dems have the Senate! Disgusting that now Reid and Company can stymie any Presidential nominee. Two years of this!
