This is an important issue for public health in the U.S. Malaria has been wiped out of the southern U.S., but if the mosquito species that carry it make a come back, it will be a serious issue, especially in southern FL where it would be expected first. If the planet does warm a bit, regardless of cause (and I don't believe humans are responsible for natural variation), it could happen. I'm not a doom and gloomer, but vigilence is a good idea for this possible problem so we can nip it in the bud.

Whenever I see the word "could" (or it's cousin "may") in a news article, I assume that the article is not meant to inform, but to scare. In his excellent book "State of Fear," Michael Crichton talks about the rise in 'fear' words in the media since the fall of the Soviet Union.
From the article:
dire consequences
scientists concerned
consequences could be more serious
more pesticides
very costly
diseases are also a worry.
Malaria, Lyme Disease
more infections.
widening of malarial zones
face extinction
It's informative to look within such articles to see how many 'scare' and 'fear' words and phrases there are.

The infestation is projected to begin in Washington in early January when the Democrap Beetles (cousin to the Dung Beetle so named for its habit of rolling large balls of dung along the ground to its nest) will swarm in large numbers to Capitol Hill, there to produce huge quantities of dung which will then be rolled DOWN that hill upon the rest of us.

A rise in the Earths temperature could lead to an increase in the number of insects worldwideAnd I thought global warming was bad for all living things.

The AGW fanatics must be getting desparate - now they are trying to use arthrophobes' weaknesses to stir the pot.

It just proves (what we already know) that the journalist have stopped "reporting" and are now advocates.

The Global Warming movement reveals itself more and more as a religion with each new "warning."
They're working their way through the Biblical plagues of Egypt.

More bugs equals more birds. But what does more birds equal?

I used my 486 computer, and did a model using the Lebron James scoring average of 2005, the average age of dead voters in Missouri, and a number between 7 and 9...to build a sophisticated bug-chart which includes the famous hockey-stick additive. After I crunched the numbers and drank two cases of Pabst Blue-ribbon...I came to some startling conclusions.
First, bugs will be whoppers by 2014, and probably be Raid-proof.
Second, there will be more dead bugs in Missouri than any other state...although New Orleans has a high percentage...but I can't attribute this percentage to anything yet concrete.
Third and final...Lebon James appears to be headed to his greatest scoring year and may lead the CAV's all the way.
I am looking for a federal grant and would like to use the money to do research in Memphis...for about four weeks next spring. I'm looking for a cheap seedy hotel, alot of bar-b-q ribs, and as much Pabst as the grant will provide during that period. I would be willing to use the 486 computer for this project...provided it can work with Vista...which may be a problem. Otherwise...I'll have to do all the calculations by hand...and the Pabst may interfere with the hockey-stick formula that has to be manually loaded in with a special disk I got from some fellow from Ripley, Mississippi.
