The year 2006 will long be remembered as the Great Retribution--or perhaps the Deliverance Election. George W. Bush's presidency is toast.

[one of the great gains made by the voters]
is the collapse of the conservative order--the right-wing economic agenda that has reigned for a generation and produced so many great injuries to society and the general well-being. Republicans will argue among themselves about how to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, but the "market ideology" cannot be repaired. This year, unlike in previous elections, many Democrats ran on the economic issues vital to ordinary people--trade, declining wages, the destruction of the middle class, corporate greed. Led by Senator-elect Sherrod Brown of Ohio, these Democrats will be a new force in Washington--committed to pushing real solutions instead of stale palliatives.

They make no more sense when they are jubilant than they do when they are wallowing in misery.
Never expect Liberals to be gracious winners or losers. They are, as far as I can tell, absolutely incapable of classy behavior.
Keep talking fat boy
You may have one this battle .. but you have not won the war
I think reality is going to take the initiative and divorces itself from this author.
What happened to all the voter fraud, supression of the vote, the broken election machines and all those people who couldnt punch a chad?
Trade????? I see middle class dead bodies all over the place?? Declining wages? Put the crack pipe down.
Where's the Barf Alert?
Garbage.
Pendulums swing, as we saw this week.
This is a golden opportunity. Let the circus begin so that voters are ready for normalcy come 2008, which is a much more important election than this one was.

Nice statement, but awfully short on any sort of supporting evidence. Last time I looked, unemployment was at an historic low, the stock market at a record high, along with home ownership, etc., etc. What exactly is so bad about the "right-wing" (read "capitalist") economic agenda?
Hard to believe that the voters turned the country over to the liberal clowns who can actually say things like this with a straight face.
On the bright side, though, Rutgers won last night!
President Bush still has a veto pin, I hope he uses it.
Yep. And it didn't swing as far as it did in '94.
This article confirms for me that the dems will take this election as a sign Americans are now all socialists. They made this mistake in 1992 and tried to foist Hillarycare down our throats. Lets hope they try it again and lets hope that out of these ashes strong leaders emerge.

For once the cliche actually applies: it's all Bush's fault.
I support President George W Bush, now more than ever. He is doing the right things by reaching across the isle. He has no other choice. This is what the majority voted for and this is what being a leader is all about. He will have to do what it takes to continue to move things along for the good of the country.
Prayers for our troops, our country, and most of all our President!
It is over for GW and hopefully for any Bush in any of our futures.
Guess it is now time for us to move on.
