WASHINGTON (CNN) -- On the same day President Bush promised a new bipartisan Washington, he began efforts to get two of his most controversial decisions approved before the Democrats take over Congress.
Bush on Thursday submitted the nomination of John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and said he would like to move forward on legislation to authorize the National Security Agency's domestic surveillance program.

Rummy removed a convenient target from the RATS. He will be replaced by a good man whom it will take a year or so to vilify in the eyes of the dumbassed American voters. He had taken his fair share of irrational hysteria.
Of course they're having tantrums behind the scenes. I look forward to the day when they turn it into a public spectacle. The voters wanted change. They got it.

quickvote
What do you think is more responsible for the GOP election defeat?
Administration policies
The GOP's campaign
Bolton may go down, but at least I want to have the chance to see him go "Scorched Earth" in the hearings.
And another thing...
Just wait until the Dem Senators try to get anything they want passed.
Remember the cloture vote?? It needs 60 votes...they have 51 and one of our RINOS..Chaffee lost.
Oh, man...I am feeling better every hour...
I know it's expecting too much, but there's no reason why the Pubbies shouldn't just ram through all the business they've been pu$$yfooting around with for the last 6 years. Make the tax cuts permanent too. They've got nothing to lose.
And now he starts to play tough and in your face politics.
I've heard he can't resess appoint John Bolton again. If he could, I'd just do that again.
If he can't, this is an easy one: Recess appoint RICK SANTORUM! He needs a new job I hear.
It would drive the D's batty.
The incessant attacks on Rumsfeld become a distration. Even some of the troops were glad Rummy resigned.
hi---The troops KNOW who Bolton is.---bye
Well, some. Some know who Kerry is, too.
There is nothing controversial at all about Bolton.
Unless you hate America being well-represented in the UN.
On Tuesday..and even yesterday...I was wondering if I could stomach watching the Senate and House on C-span..and posting on the Live thread anymore.
I am thinking NOW...I can't wait for the first temper tantrum Reid throws...when he can't get his first pill through a cloture vote...and it just dies...
OR..when one does get through...and Bush vetos it..which he WILL start doing now.
Yep. The election losses aren't as bad as they seem. In fact, I can't wait to see Jon Tester lurch far to the left because he'll have to tow the line of the likes of Schumer, Turbin, Reid, Kennedy and Clinton. Neither of them want to work with the Republicans.
Will Saint Barack get him confused with Josh Belton again?
Watching the floor debates on C-SPAN will be fun, now that the Democrats are put on defense.
What a pathetic poll!!
here is a better one
What do you think is more responsible for the GOP election defeat?
Media bias in favor of Dems
illegal vote fraud
Bush admin not conservative enough
Immigration
Iraq
Corruption
Maybe he will call him Michael Bolton?
Say, you happen to catch the recent election results? They were a doozy.
You know, I don't quite see why folks here on FR cannot understand that the country moved to the Right on Tuesday night.
The Democrats who won those seats ran as anti abortion, pro gun conservatives. They are now what the Democratic Party did not have -- a conservative wing. Simultaneous with this, the GOP lost many moderates in the Northeast, moving the party consequently to the right.
So stop complaining and wasting your time on philosophy and spend it creating spreadsheets with which to track the votes of these Democrat conservatives. Any time they stray from conservatism, send notice to their district's local newspapers. Flood their districts with notice of their act. Their office will get wind of this and realize that they have to walk the talk they talked.
At that point the Democrats will realize they have moved rightward and lose the support of the left wing, who will do a Nader.
The only thing the GOP needs to change is what beat them -- and that is corruption. The candidates put forward need to be squeaky clean and nothing else needs to change.
Ahem, there is nothing 'rammed through', Bush hs patiently been trying for 16 months to get a permanent UN secretary confirmed ...Bolton was unjustly filibustered by Democrats who denied it was a filibuster.
Then in sept he got enough Dem support to go through by our wacky RINO chaffee stalled it...
so here we are now, Bolton *has the votes on the Senate floor*, all they need to do is bring it to the floor and be done with it.
Unless pin-head-ism intrudes.
