Everyone has to believe in something. We can use our free will to choose who/what to believe in. Every belief is a leap of faith. The difference between believing in God and believing in not-God is that God can show us from within that He really does exist, and this knowledge transcends all mental beliefs about not-God. The soul is hungry for God, and when believing in not-God, experiences an emptiness than nothing can fill. People who are saturated in rage, hatred and lust are not expriecing God at all.

Speak for yourself. I feel absolutely no urge to submerge myself in superstition. There is none of the emptiness you allude to and I pity those who need such a crutch.

But, to each his own.
