"Cut down our brother?"
Ishmael was Isaac's half brother from Abraham, and began the arab race. I guess Abraham should have kept Hagar in the tent instead of throwing her and her son out in the desert. God could have let them die but Hagar cried out and water appeared. I guess it was all for the moment we are living in now. A disgruntled half-brother seeking vengence on something that happened four milleniums ago.
No, we do have to protect and save souls. There is precedent in the bible for that. But in the end, glory will occur regardless of the battles fought and lost. It just may or may not include you.
"and death sentences for leaving the Muslim religion, or even for preaching Christianity, as occurs in Pakistan under its notorious "blasphemy laws.""
If only enough Americans new about this fact, Pakistan wont have been such a darling of America.
No, you're wrong. I am quite clear about my hungers, wants, needs and desires. Superstition and guy-in-the-sky mythology are not among them.
Again, please speak for yourself
Hey, this is a good thread for you, since you understand a little about barbarian hordes. I understand you used to raze villages in a fashion reminiscent of.........you.
Many people are totally ignorant of history. And, it seems, that ignorance is getting worse with each new crop that comes through the educational grinder.
Kerry?...Is that you? :^
And the WWII generation committed vast amounts of all three of the above.
As others have mentioned, people need to take off their rose-colored glasses regarding the past.
fool
look to the oldest history book known to christians and learn something. look to the talmud as well.
Just kidding ;)
The WWII chaplains did not get raked over the coals for 'praying in the name of Jesus'. The arrogance of curret PC military policy to restrict chaplains from mentioning 'Jesus' is frankly bordering on the criminal.
Where was Rumsfeld on this matter?
This is not the Stalinist Red Army but our beloved US servicemen denied this right and privelege.
the book says we will lose,
only the big guy gets the glory.
There's a man goin round takin names
And he decides who to free and who to blame...
"I have heard a man warning that America will very soon face a reckoning."
Don't know if it's the same one, but I have heard one, too. No, he's not the 1st for me, either, but there's a ring of truth that echoes.
I guess you didn't see my point that the WW2 generation was using up the capital of the previous generations. The capital is just about down to zero, now.
Also, keep in mind that the illegitimacy rate is now about one third of all births in the US (and about half in the UK). I don't have the figures for the 1940s at the tip of my brain, but IIRC it was in the single digits. That in itself is quite telling.
Sheesh, even when I was a kid it was unusual to have a divorced person move into the neighborhood.
look to the oldest history book known to christians and learn something. look to the talmud as well."
I have. In part, I seem to recall an imprecation against calling one's brother a fool.
What I read is no different from all the other ancient texts left behind by people who tried to make some sense of their world but couldn't do more than approximate it. I can ignore the sad history of warfare, wiping out entire peoples and the petty rules about wearing garments of two different threads. It isn't important that this supposedly inerrant book calls bats, birds, states that the sun revolves around the earth or contains any of the other 2500 errors of fact it contains.
What matters is that it is just a book and that is all. To try to contain or circumscribe all that there is to what one can find within it is to voluntarily limit ones view to a very narrow degree.
But, to each his own.
I have noticed that you speak about the "errors" of the Bible.
Please cite the one where it supposedly states that the sun revolves around the earth.
As an aside: do you dismiss the morality of the Bible as well? If so, does that mean that the rest of us owe you no moral duty whatsoever?
Think about the implications of your beliefs.
