Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?
. . .
I do not believe I have proposed anything that is contrary to what has been considered Republican principle. It is at the same time the very basis of conservatism. It is time to reassert that principle and raise it to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way. Newt was talking to Hannity about this tonight and he was right -- this is EXACTLY what we need to do now.

RE: "In another recent survey, of 35,000 college and university students polled, three-fourths blame American business and industry for all of our economic and social ills. The same three-fourths think the answer is more (and virtually complete) regimentation and government control of all phases of businessincluding the imposition of wage and price controls. Yet, 80 percent in the same poll want less government interference in their own lives!"
Let's see, in college in late 1974 or early 1975. Let's say for the sake of argument so as to average in undergrad and grad students, 23 years old. Add 32 years. That would make it, 55 years old. Now we see our current problem. Those same students who answered that way run both the private and public sector today. Especially the public sector, because a 1974 Lefty is highly likely to have become a lawyer then gone into politics.

The only problem is there are no more Ronald Reagans waiting in the wings to spearhead a conservative takeover of the country club.

Thank You for posting this. It brought tears to my eyes. God, I miss him. But this speech, fitting as it is for today, tells me that Reagan still lives on today.

I wish Reagan could come back. This is as fresh today as when he wrote it. I still miss him, didn't know him personally, but you know as a public figure I miss him.

Inflation has one cause and one cause only: government spending more than government takes in. Every time I see this speech, I highlight the above line. Inflation is not caused by economic growth, low unemployment, or any of the other creative excuses given by the Federal Reserve.

Now, it is possible we have been persuasive to a greater degree than we had ever realized. Few, if any, Democratic party candidates in the last election ran as liberals. Listening to them I had the eerie feeling we were hearing reruns of Goldwater speeches. I even thought I heard a few of my own.Amazing!
It's the same now as it was then.

He was the first President I voted for. His election in 1980 was the first politcal event I paid attention to. He'll always be "the" President of my lifetime. I honor his memory and accomplishments.

After reading other topics and posts this evening, and almost weeping, this gives me hope. From the ashes true conservative values will rise. I pray for a statesman for our party.

But the significance of the election was not registered by those who voted, but by those who stayed home.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Truth! The Republican RINO initiative is DOA. The Gang of 14 lost 12 ( or 13?) of their number.McCain is personna non grata.Spector eyes the retirement paddock.
Conservatives stayed home or voted 3rd party. The Republican party needs more men and women cut from the cloth of Regan, and Tom DeLay as well.
This lesson was NOT lost on the RNC. Hastert, that mavin of weak bi-partisanship, cowers from the back of the room refusing to offer himself as minority leader. He and the RINOS traduced Tom DeLay. Now the Republican party pays the price for it......minority status.
And NOW the RNC must return to its conservative strength, and make it a foundation for its future. If not, then the South will become a conservative armed camp retirement area.
