George Bush has been bitch-slapped. Pole-axed. Humbled.
The voters at these mid-term elections have crucified him over Iraq, and he's already had to dump his detested Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld. He's now desperately figuring how to bring his troops home, and will soon be in full retreat as the Democrats . . .
Wakey, wakey! Dream over, Bushbasher.
It's true, Bush has been hurt. It's true, his missteps in Iraq cost his Republican Party plenty. And it's true, too, that with the Democrats taking over the House of Representatives and Senate, he's lost some power.
But now the buts. First, Bush is still President for two more years. With a veto over Congress. And control over troops and foreign policy.
Second, he will indeed change tactics in Iraq, but will not abandon it to its fascist enemies -- and nor will the Democrats want him to.
I'm guessing about the Democrats, of course, because they haven't actually said what they want instead.
But their most influential spokesmen sure won't call for a quick retreat, and not just because they don't dare look weak. It's also because no Democrat hoping to be president wants to inherit a United States that's just ratted on its allies and fled from its foes.

The next two years might actually be fun, although I do worry about Supreme Court vacancies.
Its going to fun to see the democrats actually have to work and have to defend their policies/screwups for a change.
Here's how the Dems should play it:
Start digging for investigative dirt with the help of the MSM. Get some wacky moonbat legislation out quick to please their lunatic base, then try like hell to pretend to be moderate so that Hillary can get elected in 08.
Here's how the Dems will play it:
They'll completely over-reach as usual.
I do not think that Stevens and Ginsburg will make it for two more years, so the clinton will hit the fan when an opening occurs.
Those wacky DUers do come up with an amusing graphic now and then. My favorite was an animated gif of Solomon Grundy from Super Friends going "Freeeeper! Freeeeper!" That one cracked me up. Wish I had a link.
I got a chance to see FOX news when I was on lunch. Cameron was absolutely glowing and looked like a kid in a candy store. For this reason alone I am much happier. It could very well be a fun 2 years. The Dems will blow it, cause it is what they do best.
Bump
What people thought they were voting for and what they are going to get, there is a vast difference between them.
They will be begging for republicans to save them.
President Bush does not have to appoint a replacement. Check the US Constitution. If two libs retire, that will leave 5 conservatives, 2 liberals.
I got a kick out of it, the mods moved my post
I'll bet Bush nominates AG Alberto R. Gonzales. He is more moderate, and might get through the Senate. He would be better than John Paul Stevens.
Well, we lost and we lost big, and I competely blame the leadership and GW for this loss.
Not enough done, period.
They went into the WH and hid for a couple of years and the dims and MSM did nothing but bash and they did not return fire. Guess they learn from the Clintons
Now, we hear that Bush 1 is going to send in his clowns and straighten up this whole mess, all I got to say is GOD help us all.
By the time he was on Brit Hume's Special Report he was trying to suppress the grin. I have never seen him look so animated. His eyes, which usually are little slits, were sparkling. I do not like him.
It's going to be a big challenge no matter who he might nominate. Anyone to the right of Hugo Chavez would be an improvement over Stevens, and the Rats will insist that they be given a liberal replacement "in order to maintain the balance of the Court."
I spoke with my congressman last night. He said that while he deeply regretted losing the House because the Democrats now get to set the agenda, he's looking forward to putting Pelosi and her minions on the defensive.
Wonderful. O'Connor wouldn't leave until a replacment was appointed. Will the ailing, aged liberals do the same? Let's hope.
In any event, Bush can nominate good, solid constitutionalists and let the senate take as lont as it wants to confirm them.
That is delicious!
